GITEX 2019 technology exhibition - how it was

Last week, from October 6 to 10, Dubai (UAE) hosted the largest technological exhibition GITEX 2019 in the Persian Gulf region. It is dedicated to the most interesting achievements in the field of robotics, the Internet of things, biometric, mobile and cloud technologies, video surveillance, consumer electronics and etc.

At the exhibition, companies from one country located a common stand. It is convenient, you can see the latest from a particular country. Some countries (Belgium, for example) were represented by one stand, while Russia had four. On one of them is the corporate cloud provider Cloud4Y, which offered infrastructure as a service (IaaS) and a number of other solutions.

We decided to tell you about the most interesting devices and technologies shown on GITEX. We apologize if we missed something - our booth had a lot of visitors, and we physically did not have time to visit everywhere.

A bit about the exhibition

4,500 exhibitors, 90 countries, approximately 150,000 visitors - the exhibition was really large-scale. Russia has been participating in it since 2017, so the delegation from our country arrived in the Emirates only for the third time. GITEX 2019 is striking in its scale and incredible technologies on display at the stands. Unmanned drones, aero motorcycles, robots, nanochips, VR technologies, game devices, sophisticated software for special services - there was much to see at the exhibition center. It is gratifying that the interest in Russian technological innovations was huge.

Interestingly, Pakistan was particularly active. This country began to invest in IT in order to increase its competitiveness in the world market, become less dependent on the USA and provide comfortable conditions for business development in the country. Representatives of India, Yemen, Nigeria, Bahrain, Egypt, the USA and other countries were also interested in the solutions offered by Russian companies. And if African and Arab countries asked more about technology and gadgets, then Americans asked about software. They were especially interested in software that provides information security and detects hidden vulnerabilities.

The result of the participation of Russian companies in GITEX 2019 was the conclusion of several promising contracts and agreements on the possible use by other countries of domestic UAVs, banking software, a planetary scanner for digitizing archive collections ( an example of the scanner ) and a rifle for virtual reality.

What aroused interest

Augmented reality rifle

The Ai-Ex company from Skolkovo, engaged in augmented virtual reality technologies, demonstrated at GITEX a rifle that fully simulates the return when shooting in augmented reality. Most virtual helmets today naturalistically recreate sound and image, but they lack the transmission of tactile sensations. The rifle "Ay-Exp" has more than enough of these sensations. It was funny to see how the harsh sheikhs and respectable Europeans blurred into a smile, like children trying this rifle.

Implantable microchip

Telecommunications operator Etisalat introduced microchips that plan to implant under the skin between the index and thumb. The technology is implemented in partnership with the Swedish company Biohax International. Rice-grain-sized microchips can load all kinds of data, including medical history, passwords, and so on. People who have implanted themselves do not have to carry loyalty cards and credit cards with them - chips store information. Chip carriers can even open doors or start cars using an implant. The chip can be in the human body for 10 to 20 years, after which it needs to be replaced. The cost of the chip is 150 euros, but for students, a 50 percent discount is provided.

Cameras that control the fare

The Dubai Emirate Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) introduced cameras capable of recognizing faces and actions. They will help calculate free riders who don’t lean Nol cards against the terminal. The system consists of two cameras: a conventional camera for observing the interior and a camera that supports machine learning technology and the face recognition function. This camera will be able to determine whether the passenger touched the terminal and identify the identity of the offender. Through the communication channel, the system notifies the RTA Control Center, and a fare dodger will be fined 200 dirhams ($ US 54.45). In addition to buses, smart stations will equip metro stations along the Metro route 2020. At seven stations, 3D cameras will scan objects and help make decisions. For example, if someone carries a stroller, the camera will send a signal so that the doors open and are open longer than the set time so that a person can safely pass. Photos will not be, alas.

Water Police Station

The floating police station, which will be living on the World Islands in Dubai, looked very interesting. One of the Seahorse project villas will have three levels with a total area of 370 sq.m., one underwater, one at sea level and the so-called β€œupper deck”. The upper level will serve as a runway for the UAV or drone, which will fly around to scan the area in case of an accident. The middle deck, which is located at sea level, will accommodate the main "smart" police station. It also has an outdoor pool. The lower, underwater level, got floor-to-ceiling windows. And offers uninterrupted views of marine life.

Transformer motorcycle

A flying motorcycle has become one of the points of attraction in the exhibition hall. He is able to switch between motorcycle and helicopter modes. On such a motorcycle, you can ride on the road, and when you meet a traffic jam, take off and fly over it. At the touch of a button, the Lazareth transformer hoverbike turns into an aircraft and, after 60 seconds, when the engines warm up, breaks off the ground. In the event of an accident, a ballistic parachute is built into each wheel. The estimated price of $ 560,000. According to some reports, the total weight of the motorcycle is only 140 kg, and traction in flight mode is 240 kg.

Barista robot

The Turkish robot, which knows how to make cupcakes and serve coffee, looked interesting. It just seems that even the coolest robot is not able to replace a living barista, who with a smile will prepare you exactly the coffee that you want at this moment.

Chatty Robot Police Officer

At the entrance to the exhibition hall, you could see a cop robot. Not to be confused with robocop! Flexible, sociable, not so scary - he looked very interesting.

Luxury car from Renault

I was surprised by the Renault EZ-Ultimo show car, which is supposed to close the VIP passenger transport segment. You seem to understand that this is a fantastically luxurious vehicle, but the car looks from the outside like a fake Christmas tree toy. It shines brightly and beautifully, but somehow it doesn’t please you at heart. Although there were always a lot of people around. The machine is 5.7 m long and 2.2 m wide, height - 1.35 m. Entrance to the cabin is through a huge opening in the starboard side. Finishing - leather, wood and marble. The cabin is designed for three passengers: two are located on the sofa in the back, and for the third - a swivel chair in front. On board there is an advanced media system that offers passengers a lot of entertainment and the functionality of a mobile office. Only the lattices on the windows look strange, which, by design, provide privacy to the inhabitants of the cabin.

Feel like an F1 mechanic

A simple but interesting entertainment was offered by Epson, the sponsor of one of the popular racing teams. It was necessary to replace the speed of the wheel of the car at speed. Everything looked very simple, but in practice, not all managed it. A bright scoreboard showing the leaders of the rating fueled the interest of the public - everyone wanted to be, if not the first, then at least to be in the top.

The next two stands could not be visited, but they were talked about a lot. The first featured a Tsuru Robotics graffiti drone that painted programmed images . On the second, one could see medical technology from ANIMA RES. An amazing mixture of three-dimensional medical animation and interactive applications of augmented reality made it possible to better understand the human body. Under the spoiler is a short video. Not ours, but interesting.

Augmented Reality Medicine

At Gitex 2019 it was very interesting, and we did a great job. So it is likely that Cloud4Y will participate in the next exhibition.
