Introvert Interview

How often do you go for interviews? If you are an adult and a person in the profession, you obviously have no time to stumble around other people's offices in search of a better share of the time. The situation is complicated if you are an introvert and a priori can not stand meeting with strangers. What to do?

According to a study by the NAFI analytical center, the most common way to look for work in Russia is through acquaintances. This was stated by 58% of respondents, and among citizens 35–44 years old - 62%. On the second place in terms of popularity, online resources are used by about a third (29%) of respondents. Among young people from 18 to 24 years old, this proportion is higher - 49%. Labor exchanges and companies with which people worked at their previous place of employment named 13% as potential sources of vacancies. The least popular were specialized print media and recruiting agencies - 12% and 5% of Russians, respectively, resort to them.

What was your personal experience like? For example, it is often found in social networks that posting resumes in open access on hh.ru, superjob, avito and other popular Internet resources is the last century. Allegedly - this is a sign of their own lack of demand and hopelessness. I can not agree with this. According to my observations, any company or agency begins the search with hh.ru, and then, as it falls into the depths of despair, it connects all the other channels.

From personal experience, I can say that when I search for employees in Parallels, I work with all the features. These are hh.ru, LinkedIn, Amazing hiring, github, indeed, Facebook, My circle, telegram chats, meetings, targeting and so on.

And of course the corporate referral program. Today, any Parallels employee can recommend his acquaintances for an open vacancy, receiving a pleasant financial reward upon hiring and successfully passing the probationary period.

By the way, another debatable question, how often is it worth changing jobs? Someone says that it is necessary to update the working environment every five years, and for someone the annual change of place is quite a commonplace. Each has its own life priorities. For example, in Parallels, the main team has been together for more than 15 years, the most-most have exchanged the second ten and do not seem to be planning any migrations. The average work experience in the company is more than 4 years.

Let us return to the topic of publication, what should be done if the plan to change the workspace has matured, and there is no desire to wander aimlessly at strange interviews? In fact, oddly enough, everything is very simple here - ask yourself the question where I want to work.

For example, you are eager to join the team of Parallels, Acronis, Vitruozzo or any other company. Each of the mentioned companies has a website with a list of current vacancies. Moreover, not only in Russia. By the way, a list of our vacancies can be found here . Similar positions or even slightly wider are presented on the official pages of companies on HR portals.

For example, here are the current Acronis vacancies. You can either respond directly or ask your friends who already work there to recommend you (why - see above, such a story now exists in all large companies).

An equally exciting way is to search for open vacancies on LinkedIn. Unfortunately, in Russia this resource is blocked, but if you have access to Google, what is a VPN to find out for you is not difficult.

Also, you can absolutely calmly analyze publications on the hashtags of your interest on social networks. Driving into the search bar of Facebook, for example, #python_work, you can find not only publications on similar topics, but also a lot of specialized groups with open vacancies or direct requests from recruiters.

By the way, DevOps, UX and BI consoles work wonders. Queues for specialists in these areas will be compared with the length of the Great Wall of China. The same admin summary without the DevOps prefix can go unnoticed for a month, and with the prefix in the header, get three offers per day. Magic, not otherwise (actually not).

Introvert looking for work

If you are a seasoned introvert and have no particular desire to “shine” your resume, there are some fairly simple tips. Hide your phone when publishing a resume, you can hide even your last job. But be sure to leave at least mail so that you can be contacted.

If you’re afraid, the current employer will calculate you - a resume can be closed only from him, plus use an email specially created for job search. I just ask, you don’t need excessive paranoia - it happens, you see a cool resume, but your name, mail, phone and last job are hidden. It only remains to turn to a psychic in order to identify a candidate.

The examples mentioned above cannot be considered an absolute panacea for a real introvert, because sooner or later you will be called to the office for a conditionally substantive conversation. And then the fun begins - the first step, an interview with an HR specialist. Many developers tell horrific stories about crazy recruiter girls asking completely insane questions. However, this is mutual, recruiters share even more tricky cases from practice.

True, it is not entirely clear where all these mythical characters live? From my experience - if you define tasks in advance, read everything carefully, do not cheat yourself and embellish reality - the first meeting is quick and effective, the main goal is to clarify critical issues and get to know the company - with the candidate, and the candidate - with the company. What should I tune in to? The recruiter is the best friend and assistant of the developer, his goal is to help the candidate come to the company for a suitable vacancy and thereby close it as soon as possible. If you do not want to communicate at all - write short messages in advance. In the end, they can simply be copied from a template.

If you want to be less disturbed by offers, write to LinkedIn that you are not interested in a new job right now. And if you’re still interested, but don’t want to advertise it, phrases from the series “Developing in Python and machine learning” will help you. Sane recruiters will read this and send what is needed.

Tell us about your experience, how do you usually get interviews? And what camp are you in - are there few interesting offers or are recruiters filling up with offers?
