Intel Ice Lake. 10 nm - to the masses

So, one of the longest-running intrigues in the latest technological history of Intel is coming to a logical conclusion - "when, finally, 10 nm will go into the series." The vicissitudes of this story are still in our memory, there is no sense in repeating them. And everything ends, as it should be completed: the official announcement of the first two series of processors of the 10th generation with a reduced process technology for mobile and ultra-mobile devices. A leak three months ago , by the way, was fully confirmed, and regarding the frequencies of the processors, and about their names - only now we know what they mean.

At the first stage of the launch, information is presented on ten processors that previously belonged to the U and Y families. Now this accessory is not visible from the outside, which is unusual and probably uncomfortable. I have to navigate by TDP.

Once again, we’ll be surprised at the unusually low base frequency of the processor and the unusually large, previously unseen dynamic range. Then we recall that it was these processors that were destined to become the basis for the new specification of Intel Project Athena mobile devices with outstanding energy efficiency indicators by today's standards: 9 hours of video playback and so on. So it all fits together.

As for the name, the configuration of the graphics subsystem is now added to the familiar index. As we see, there are three configurations: G1 - 11th generation graphics with 32 computing units, G4 - with 48 computing units and G7 - with 64 blocks. It is logical to assume that from generation to generation these numbers will change, whether with the indices or not, is not yet clear. The base frequency of the graphics core is 300 MHz, the maximum is in the region of 1 GHz.

It remains to add that the first devices based on Intel Ice Lake processors are already on the way to the counter. Moreover, soon we will see on sale several laptops with the newly invented Project Athena logo - the one on the left.
