Wooden Toys, Part Seven - 1993

1993 turned out to be a year of quests for me. And games on CDs are slowly starting to appear - primarily the same quests. The place is clogged with videos or audio tracks. With a note "if you stick a disc into a CD player, then do not play the first track." But this is also somewhere far away from me - I changed my school, I was left without MSX. Access to MS is still dosed. We play mainly dandy, and about computer games we read all sorts of “computer game encyclopedias”.

The 7th guest

The seventh guest is probably one of the first first-person quests with prerendered backs. Maybe even the first one, Myst was later (in the same year, yes, but I won’t mention about it - I didn’t see the original, then I played one of the remakes). It was also one of the first games that came out only on CD and many bought it as an example of what you can spend as much as six hundred megabytes. Well, or bought a CD-ROM in order to play the game. The game itself is so-so - wandering around the house, solving puzzles. But then it looked new: graphics, video, music.

Betrayal at krondor

Game book. Heroes and their relationships are predetermined (although pumping is available), the levels are called “chapters”, the script was created under the editorship of Raymond Faist in his series on Midkemia. Then, by the way, he made a novel out of the game and included it in the cycle. Freedom in the game is limited by the “chapter” - you will not go far and you will not do too much. But you can run around the allotted territory until you get bored. First-person view when moving, tactical turn-based battles, weapons and magic, the need to monitor health, riddle chests ...

Chopper duel

A small toy for two. The playing field, two helicopters, endless ammunition, final fuel - and a lot of time spent.

Dark Sun: Shattered Lands

The Dark Sun role-playing game is a peculiar world with somewhat unusual races and setting: local hobbits are cannibals, half-elves are homeless, and huge mantises are reasonable. Along with magic, psionics also exist. Although everything works within the framework of the familiar D&D system. You have to play for the team of gladiators, who are trying to escape from the "Coliseum", and then return and take revenge.

Doom

As with wolf3d, the thought didn’t really go to me. I played, even passed, I give tribute to the contribution to the game industry, but for myself I do not consider it anything special. But I'm slowly going through Doom Remake 4.

Day of the tentacle

Quest from Lucas Arts. Usually such a description is enough. We control three heroes in the past, present and future. Actions in the past affect the future. Well, corporate humor in addition to everything else. The first part of the game, called Maniac Mansion, was relatively popular, but passed me by. Although, if you feel sad, in a game in one of the rooms there is a computer on which you can play the first part.

Flashback: The Quest for Identity

A mixture of Prince of Persia (for the gameplay), Another World (for the setting and appearance) and Recall everything (for the eyeballs). The hero finds himself in the jungle with a loss of memory, a hologram appears in front of him that says “You are not you, you are me” - and then it rushed on.

Gabriel Knight: Sins of the Fathers

New Orleans, a Voodoo cult crime, the owner of a bookstore discovers that he is a descendant of the demon hunter family (and the owner of the castle in Germany). A great start to a good, but generally short series of quests.

The Legend of Kyrandia: Hand of Fate

The second part of the quests about the magical land of Cirandia. There were three of them, but the second was most remembered. More humor than in the first part, the ability to brew potions. Voice of the Russian version by professional programmers, although there wasn’t much of that voice. In the third part there was humor, but there were no potions.

Lemmings 2: The Tribes

A very worthy continuation of the lemmings. Then they were divided into tribes - and each has its own skills and levels.

The lost Vikings

Three viking lost in time. Something similar in terms of gameplay to goblins - you also need to combine skills - but they are more linear and arcade.

Lotus: The Ultimate Challenge

A simple flat race. You could play together on the same computer - that's why I was remembered.

Mortal kombat

“The bloodiest fighting game in the world”, characters obtained with Motion Capture and all that. The series is still afloat, but started from here. The DOS version was the best port from machines, on other platforms I had to sacrifice something.

Master of orion

Global space strategy. It was quite possible to play on 386, but the Pentium upgrade spurred a game on large galaxies, the move began to take seconds instead of minutes. The second part, of course, was better, but before the release of the second, the first was also played well.

Pirates! Gold

The original pirates came out a few years ago, but did not play them. But I played a lot in the VGA reissue. Caribbean, sea battles, fencing, treasure hunts ...

Simcity 2000

Continuation of the Sim City series. Better, more beautiful. But Godzilla was removed, replaced by a robot.

Sam & Max Hit the Road

Again the quest from Lucas Arts, the adventures of two private detectives - the dog Sam and Max's "hyperkinetic rabbit-like fucking". Although Sam's behavior is sometimes no better.

Space Quest V: The Next Mutation

Another Space Quest. References to Star Trek begin already in the title. Roger finally (by mistake) was promoted from janitor to captain. Garbage ship.

Strike commander

Strike Commander is like Wing Commander, just about airplanes. Somewhat less known, did not go into the series, but the game was not bad.

Syndicate

A strategy to capture the world with real-time tactical battles. In strategic mode, select locations for operations and conduct research; in tactical mode, 1-4 cyborgs and a target are given under the command. Several types of weapons, interesting opportunities - such as luring enemies and civilians to their side - turned out to be a good game. Then came the addition of American Revolt.

Transarctica (Arctic Baron)

Again a game from Silmarils, a mixture of genres. The world after a global catastrophe, eternal winter, all people live in trains, coal became the currency, elephants became furred and became mammoths. You travel the world by train, get coal, catch mammoths, fight against enemy trains. The goal is to find the sun.

Warlords ii

I was voiced a claim that the first part was not mentioned in previous issues. Well, she didn’t come to me somehow. For the second part they sat much longer. A turn-based strategy, map, several players, the capture of castles and the production of units in them, the study of ruins, etc. It was also valuable for multiplayer on one computer.

Star Wars: X-Wing

The first game in the Star Wars simulator series. Compared to Wing Commander, there is more to the simulator than the movie. And a little more variety for the purposes of tasks.

Field of Dreams

Computer implementation of the game "Field of Miracles" with Yakubovich. There was a slightly different game with Listyev, but she did not receive such a distribution.

King's bounty 2

An unofficial attempt to continue King's Bounty. I don’t even know if it was finished to the end. I obviously played some unfinished one.
