Overview of Geomarketing Services

By type of activity, I studied the geomarketing market. And before this study, it seemed to me that nothing new had been invented in this area, since I knew that large network companies (such as Coffee Like, Stolovaya 1, etc.) use footage footage near the entrance and subsequent manual counting of people in accelerated video.



When I tried to turn to search engines with requests “How to choose a place for business”, “How to calculate pedestrian traffic near a store”, I came across articles and videos on how to choose a room by indirect signs and how to count traffic by head.



But it turned out that there are at least 7 companies that help with choosing a place for business - some of them process information from cameras and wi-fi meters, others build mathematical models, and there are companies that use machine learning to predict the revenue of a future company. And maybe there is more - that’s all I found, and how difficult it was to find them. Even after recognizing the word “Geomarketing” and driving it into a search engine, not all companies are located.



Therefore, I am posting a list of companies that I have found so that those who are interested in the topic can choose.



  1. ESRI The oldest player in this market. Covers the whole world. And it allows you not only to choose a place for business, but also has a wide variety of maps and data - political maps, street cleanliness data, even maps where beer is preferred over wine and vice versa. I did not fully understand all the possibilities - I do not have enough language. But there is a second company in the list which in Russian works on the data of ESRI

  2. Geocenter Consulting Service works with data from ESRI. But the service is imprisoned not for choosing a room, but for transport companies, and it has the functions of finding a route, traffic jam, etc. And I included it in the list because I could not find another Russian-speaking company on ESRI data. But rather there is and I was looking badly.
  3. Geointelekt There is a legend that the company was originally created for the needs of X5 Retail Group. But then it was isolated in a separate project.

    The service has a lot of different data - population, competitors, traffic and income indicators in the pedestrian, transport, arbitrary and other areas. It’s convenient that you can order research, or you can use the service platform yourself. The platform has affordable prices - from 5,000 rubles for daily use of the platform. Which is not comparable with the loss in the unsuccessful choice of a place for business. However, they receive pedestrian traffic based on data from Beeline and prices are not written. And for cellular companies, such data can cost hundreds of thousands and millions of rubles. Yes, and Beeline occupies 23% of the cellular market, but I think with large numbers of subscribers it is possible by mathematical modeling to complete 77% of the movement of phones in space.

  4. Bestplace uses machine learning and analyzes more than 60 indicators to give a forecast on the potential success of a location to open a point of sale. There are no prices on the site - only an application. In general, the company was seen in the news about attracting investments, which means that at least investors believe in the reliability of the data and, as a consequence, in the success of the company.

  5. Geo-m - mathematical research. There are no specific prices, there is no platform for independent use. The company is similar to the company above on offer. It is poorly understood what data exactly they have. Of the benefits, they analyze the existing branches of the company and offer to analyze the potential of the city to open a specific business in it.

  6. SmartLoc is a company engaged in manual measurement of pedestrian traffic and information processing. Has information on the population.

  7. Statpad - use cameras and wi-fi counters to measure cross-country ability. Based on statistical information, models are built - the amount of traffic, age and sex structure, demand, competition.

  8. GisBuyer is a startup with potential that I accidentally saw in an article from the founder on VC. I managed to play with him in August, when the service was free. Now paid. This is a platform where you can get information yourself - the number of pedestrian traffic, schedules of pedestrian traffic by hours and days of the week, the number of residents in houses within a radius, the distance to parking lots and other infrastructure facilities. The article wrote that the calculation of pedestrian traffic is based on the coordinates of the movement of mobile devices, but where this data is not clear from, and as a result, can this be believed.
