Habra detective and festive mood

Did you hear the phrase "often comments are much more useful than the article itself"? On Habré she meets regularly enough. Basically, we are talking about additional technical details, a look from the point of view of another technology, or simply alternative opinions.

But today I'm not interested in technical comments at all. The fact is that recently on Habré registration in the "Club of Anonymous Santa Clauses" was opened (and it closes tomorrow). Let's try to find out "everything that is possible" and whether there is a New Year spirit on Habré.

So, what can you learn about Habra-ADM? Let's get started.

What is officially known?

All public information is reduced to the number of participants who sent gifts and received gifts. For history, there is an archive with these figures, as well as clubadm authorship posts - 2 posts for each club (year) - an announcement and a "gift boasting post". Traditionally, these posts are “posts of goodness”, in which all comments receive pluses and even frankly asking for karma does not lead to its reduction. Naturally, there are rare exceptions - complaints about the “wrong” gift and not only.

However, everyone is trying to really be kind or keep silent. At the same time, although the audience of ADM stopped growing back in 2013, it has been quite stable lately, as well as the statistics of gifts received.

2012 455 234 (51.43%) 144 (31.65%)

What can be learned easily and naturally?

Let's start with the obvious - Habr statistics. It should be clarified that the analysis does not include the current year 2019 (after all, this season is in full swing). So, 14 haber posts in total collected 863 pluses and 62 minuses with a total rating of 801. In total, they were viewed 366.5 thousand times (Habr shows the data with an accuracy of 100 views under each post), and added 686 times to bookmarks. As you can see, the community’s interest was maximal in 2013, and minimal in 2014.

But is it true that publications about Habra-ADM evoke the New Year spirit and become posts of good? Let's look at user comments. Total posts commented 4,340 times. Of these, 61 comments were hidden by UFOs and are not taken into account in statistics. At the same time, 404 unique users commented on the announcements, while 491 showed off bragging. In total, 693 people participated in the discussion of ADM.

So, a total of 16,755 pluses and 385 minuses. At the same time, a maximum of 60 up arrows and a maximum of 34 down arrows received comments in 2013 posts (post-announcement and post-boasting, respectively).

Next level

Let's talk a bit about karma and lateness. For 7 years of complaints about the impossibility of participating in Habra-ADM, there were at least 77 in the comments to the announcements and 2 to the boasts of gifts. But the word karma was mentioned in the comments 124 and 36 times respectively (sometimes in a different context). Also, 8 and 19 times there were confessions about the missed start of the new season. Annual statistics are given under the spoiler.

2013 0 4 0 2013 one 8 8
2012 0 0 0 2012 0 nineteen 5

An interesting fact is that the number of complaints about the impossibility of participation is growing in 2017 and 2018, although the threshold of karma was reduced from 20.0 to 10.0 points back in 2016 .

What about the participants? Many participate in Habra-ADM for several years in a row. Unfortunately, I do not have such information (it is available only to the organizers), but here's what I learned about the commentators. In all 7 seasons (at least one post per season), 4 people were noted in the comments ( iCTPEJlOK - organizer from 2017, kafeman - organizer from 2012, negasus - organizer 2012 - 2015, and VMAtm ). Another 4 users were noted in 6 seasons, 16 in 5 seasons, 20 people in 4 seasons and 40 in 3 ADMs. Two users commented on 104 users and one season - 505 people.

But these were all trifles. And now to the most important thing - gifts.

We deal with gifts

The question that tormented me during the beginning of the analysis of all Habra-ADM publications is what to present to my anonymous recipient of a gift. My original plan was quite selfish, and therefore try to be more global. You need to make a list of what was given before. We will assume that if the photo / description of the gift was published in a boast post, then he more or less liked it.

I note that I determined the gifts according to the description / photos presented in the comments. Naturally, the photos should have been available at the time of my analysis. In this regard, the statistics for 2012 and 2013 have a significant number of omissions (images were uploaded to third-party resources and are no longer available).

So, to begin with, I was able to identify 743 gifts received. Be careful, this is not the number of unique gifts, but the number of unique units / groups in gifts. That is, a package containing a postcard and sweets are two different gifts in my systematization. Such a step will help to better identify popular components that are only part of a larger gift.

What boasted the most? In the first place (by the sum for all seasons) sweets (they met 94 times). Next come postcards and letters (93 pieces), and in third place - books - 65 pieces. Fourth place with a score of 48 is shared by “board and other games” and “toys” (including soft toys, New Year's and New Year's decorations). Microcontrollers / electronic designers - 37 pieces and magnets / other geo-souvenirs - 35 pieces are also popular.

In addition, Habra residents love to send as a gift items of clothing (especially warm and souvenir), devices for watching / listening / playing (mainly headphones and speakers, but there was also a harmonica) and, of course, tea and coffee.

And here are all the gifts that were given 10 or more times in all years. For information, the top 3 gifts of each year are also presented.

Instead of a conclusion

How to use this information and why is it needed?

If you are a member of Habra-ADM, then you can try to stay on the safe shore with a gift choice and send something popular. Or vice versa - to be the most original Habra-ADM and make any Habra-APP happy.

For those who are simply observing, this is an entertaining example of community self-organization. It is clubadm's posts of authorship, comments under them, and the action itself that causes an inexplicable surge of kindness in the minds of Habr-users.

In any case, you can try to contribute to the next Habra analysis and leave a trace in the statistics, because at the end of the season or before the next we will try to figure out if something has changed.
