Androids from the company Promobot. View from the outside

Typically, robotics from Russia causes mainly laughter, and some disappointment during the presentation. This reaction is familiar to most of the CIS countries, but is no longer obvious to other countries. One example of change is Promobot’s latest development, which scared Courtney Linder from Popular Mechanics magazine.

Next is a translation of her impressions of Robo-C Promobot in the article Russians Will Do This to You, Whatever This Is, If You Want.

The title of the article is intriguing ...

The Russians will do this with you if you want.

A Russian startup called Promobot offers a new line of androids that can be made similar to the customer.

The company claims that the robot can be used as an office worker, consultant, administrator or roommate.

Robo-C (the so-called android robot) has more than 600 facial expressions and realistic artificial skin.

Just imagine a picture of the future.

You go to the front door of your house, insert the key into the lock, and then go inside. It was a long day at work. You say in the room, “what NFL teams are playing tonight?”, And the electronic voice tells you: “Green Bay is playing today with the Philadelphia Igles!” And you see “this” around the corner of the wall. This is your double. This is a robot. You have voluntarily acquired it.

And it is real.

So the Russian startup company Promobot convinces us that we need “this”, despite the fact that “this” is a big obstacle and, frankly, not necessary, given that we already have devices like voice assistant that can Help us set the time, read the weather, play music, and add events to our calendar.

Robo-C is a universal platform on the basis of which the company has already created other “faces” that are similar to Arnold Schwarzenegger and Albert Einstein .

These are the first "star" androids of the company. The real Schwarzenegger even met his clone earlier this year behind the scenes of the Synergy Global Forum, in the educational center in New York.

Famous robots are familiar, But here's a real shock if you can order a robot that will look exactly like you, your partner, or your child. The price of such a bot and production dates are not indicated on the site, but Promobot recommends that potential customers leave their contact details, adding that "our specialist will contact you and tell you everything about the purchase conditions - delivery of robots."

Each Robo-C can simulate more than 600 facial expressions to show various emotions, such as fear, joy and surprise, and many others. An anthropomorphic machine can maintain a conversation and answer questions. The company even developed special artificial leather to imitate some kind of false sense of humanity if you take the hand of one of these models.

These robots come with a charging station, a protective glass cube, and something called a robotic complex.

Androids are reminiscent of life-size characters from The Sims games, so they don’t look evil - they’re just weird and not quite what you expect to see when you sit in a chair at home.

But a stranger option is to create a bot based on the one you love. This is reminiscent of an episode from “Be Right Back”, where the main character brings her husband back to life as a robot that looks exactly like him and is programmed inside on the model of the “original”.

It all seems a little strange.

PS - An interesting point that I have already noted - the functionality of the robot, in principle, can be expanded due to the wider scope of application when finalizing.

For example, it might look like this.

In the end, drinking with a robot will be much nicer than with current versions of bartender robots.
