BYOD meeting room devices

Today, one of the most popular requests in the field of professional equipment for audio and video equipment is β€œequipping meeting rooms, conference rooms, executive offices and meeting rooms”, as well as β€œcollaboration systems”. People practically live with mobile devices, laptops, netbooks, tablets, instead of printed papers, books and magazines. Accordingly, coming to meetings or rallies like Western companies like to say, it is much easier to bring a mobile device with which you can manage to edit the document in a few clicks to the necessary conditions or requirements.

Therefore, BYOD devices are increasingly used by companies for collaboration and simplified work.

Today, there are many interesting working hardware and software applications for implementing functionality. Almost all world-wide companies involved in switching systems develop, produce and improve their own BYOD devices.

Output

To summarize between the two ClickShare and wePresent lines - the first is based on wireless plug-in buttons, the second is based on wireless transfer with additional flash drives and using MirroOp software. The ClickShare line is a more premium line, mainly aimed at use in rooms where a large number of guests come and require ease of connection without unnecessary troubles, with wide functionality. Another line of the same BYOD devices - wePresent is aimed at working in the same rooms, but due to the requirement to use additional software it imposes some difficulties in setting up, for example, flash drives for transferring content.

Benq insta show

Benq introduced a rather interesting solution to the problem of outputting images from your device. Two models are available in the BYOD line of devices - WDC10C / WDC20.

Each model has a base unit, 2 buttons HDMI & USB-A or USB-C and a plastic case for storing buttons.

The previous WDC10 is no longer available. The ideology of work is to connect wireless buttons to a laptop and transfer content wirelessly. The base model of the previous generation WDC10 and the new WDC10C - only works with wireless buttons. The WDC20 model also allows you to transfer content over a wireless network, connecting users' brought devices - BYOD devices over a wireless Wi-Fi network.

The standard button has two cables - 1xHDMI for video signal transmission and 1xUSB (type A) for power supply.

On the one hand, this is a plus, since it does not require the installation of additional software on a connected device (BYOD), on the other hand, it poses certain difficulties, since not every laptop is equipped with an HDMI connector and USB type A.

Therefore, after some time, BenQ released an updated version of the WDC10C, which comes with two buttons with a USB-C connector.

The USB-C buttons can also be purchased separately for the previous version of WDC10.

The WDC20 model has a similar ideology, but allows you to additionally transfer content from mobile devices over a wireless Wi-Fi network. The buttons for the WDC20 model have a slightly different design - they are slightly larger in size. Each button has one HDMI and USB-A interface. Buttons with one USB-C connector is not yet provided, but the manufacturer promises to release a little later.

The important point is that the buttons from the WDC20 model are not suitable for the WDC10 model and vice versa.

Extron sharelink

A device related to professional equipment. Does not have buttons with USB-C, USB-type A or HDMI connectors. Allows you to display video and audio content only when connected wirelessly. For Russia, the ShareLink 200 N version is certified without a built-in wireless access point - accordingly, an additional remote access point needs to be installed.

As well as a more functional updated version - ShareLink Pro 1000.

To transfer content from any device - you will need to download the Sharelink application in the AppStore or Google Play. On computers, you also need to download the application directly from the device itself to further display the content. However, there are 2 software versions - Lite and Pro. Lite - does not require installation (for computers with closed administrative rights), the Pro version requires administrator rights to install and allows you to transfer audio and video signals, and also opens additional functions.

Additionally, the user can use a flash drive with software for transferring content and video in real time without installing additional software on the guest computer.

As an additional function, it is possible to play content from a flash drive when connected to the device in a free USB-A input.

The device allows you to display a video signal in full screen or output a signal in one of 4 windows . The Sharelink Pro 1000 version supports displaying content with a resolution of 4K or 4 simultaneous images with a resolution of 1080p each.

The Sharelink Pro 1000 device can work with ShowMe specialized video cables that are equipped with buttons - a substitute for wireless buttons. Up to 4 buttons can be connected at the same time.

The Sharelink Pro 1000 model has two Gigabit Ethernet ports, which allow you to separate guest and private networks for easy access to resources. Additionally, you can control the display via the built-in RS-232 and CEC port via HDMI-interface.

Polycom – Pano

Polycom, now renamed to Poly, has introduced a content sharing device - Polycom Pano. This device provides basic functions, such as screen sharing, the ability to work with an interactive whiteboard, and others.

The device supports working with laptops, tablets and mobile devices. The device’s functionality allows you to broadcast up to 4 simultaneous content sources with the possibility of using an interactive screen or touch panel (TV).

Allows you to display video with a resolution of 4K60, receive content via the HDMI interface - 4K30, Airplay - 1080p30, Miracast - 1080p30.

Polycom Pano can be powered by PoE or from the included power supply.

The approximate recommended retail price (for 2019) is about 140 000 rub.

Summarizing the above.

Basically, many eminent manufacturers are trying to develop models of BYOD devices in such a way that the content transfer interface is intuitive to users, does not require the installation of additional software and works in plug-and-play mode. However, different models of BYOD devices have their own characteristics for the transfer of content, so for each task it is worth choosing the optimal equipment. According to statistics, complex functions are rarely used in Russian companies, so chasing top-end versions is not always advisable.
