The villainous Aftershokz headphones, or how Marvel inspires and what inspires

Hand on heart: I like Marvel movies. Perhaps the only character whose fate is not very interesting to me is Spider-Man, but “you won’t throw words out of the franchise”, so I had to watch “Far from Home”.

As a matter of fact, this part also prompted reflection on some gadgets in these films and technologies. More precisely, not even a part, but the Misterio headphones - this is aftershokz model from our assortment well known here, on the Habr’s.

A small offtopic on technology and gadgets in the Marvel universe inside.

In fairness, I must say that, although they appear in the frame quite often, no particular emphasis is placed on them - this is a completely harmonious part of the costume, logical for a military man. But here’s what I’m thinking about: perhaps this is the only modern gadget that in its original form entered this cinema universe.

Other technologies could be “inspired” by some developments of the present, but still “optimized” in order to become part of a fantastic franchise. However, the reverse is also true: Marvel is not only inspired by modern scientific and technological developments, but also inspires modern scientists and developers.

How do these "all sorts of miracles" arise

Perception has been responsible for the design and concepts of many devices and technologies in the Marvel universe for many years. And they, of course, are great fellows.

It was interesting to read some excerpts from the interviews, where they share how they create fantastic reality. In particular, one of the theses is that a person should not leave the session with the feeling that all this is unrealistic. Thus, the team confirms the hunch that they are inspired by modern devices and the latest concepts in the world of technology.

For example, the same Smart Sand from Black Panther has been known since 2008.

Or the ability to tactfully contact with remote objects using digital technology, that’s what the leader’s sister “trades”. This technology was introduced by MIT engineers in 2013.

By and large, all these technologies are fantastic by modern design and visual effects, but in fact a significant part of what impressed us in the cinema has already had a history of a decade. You don’t think about it in an armchair, but you leave the hall with a clear “Wow, we are still far from this ...”

In any case, this is the case with many military technologies, which probably should not be widely advertised. In one of the materials, you can find comments about the same Vibranium and some of the "real" prototypes that are related to it, which are given by the CIA agent.

From the obvious

Looking at some technologies, however, the impression of separation is no longer created. By creating smart displays with the right information before your eyes in the form in which we know them from the films, Stark could well be inspired by the ideas of Google Glass.

JARVIS is now also known to the younger generation under the names of Siri, Alice, etc. Voice assistants firmly enter our lives and turn out to be extremely useful at times.

Drones, which have long become a children's toy, are invisible accessories that may well reach the consumer level: in any case, in 2012, something like a special camouflage was shown on the Mercedes-Benz channel.

So for 10 years, films somehow, one might say, have migrated from the science fiction section to the “World we live in” section. And in the end, the question I began to ask when I once again sat down with the children to review the franchise, and who inspires anyone?

Yes, of course, we generally have known Jarvis since 1964, but then he was an ordinary butler, and not artificial intelligence. Fiction as such was not. But what if, however, Wakanda exists somewhere?

From the screen - to the real world

Nevertheless, one must probably admit that films inspire no less than they inspire. They tried to reproduce the same Iron Man costume in the real world. One of the projects was even presented to the general public. Its author is Richard Browning.

Mark Zuckerberg created his Jarvis to manage a smart home. Or, for example, BusinessInsider writes that Applied Energetics has adopted the Thor's Hammer idea and is developing an appropriate weapon that will be able to defuse bombs by directing light towards them.

The genre originality of the universe - but this is still action packed and action movies imposes certain features on the technologies that we "share." Basically - this is the military industry, of course. Only fandoms go beyond this, but there is no point in considering promotional products, of course. Though…

Separate paraphernalia cannot but rejoice. The same high-tech bow used by Hawkeye can be bought for 12 thousand rubles on Aliexpress.

And the cannon with which the boy scares Stark in Iron Man:

retails for 30 bucks on Amazon.

What conclusions have I made for myself

Watching films now, many developments no longer seem fantastic, and even the superficial “googlezh” pokes his face at the fact that Marvel borrows much more than it produces. This is partly due to the peculiar concept voiced by the representatives of the partner studio, and partly to the fact that inventing something that never really existed is probably very difficult.

As soon as you stop paying attention to the design of Tony's “toys”, you immediately see Philips and Siri smart lamps in them, and this turns out to be very funny, at least because now you can kind of live the life of a genius, billionaire, playboy and philanthropist.

Of course, I can’t judge how close we are to the capabilities of Hank Pym and his Ant-Man, but, obviously, much of the same Wakanda already exists in every house. It was especially pleasant for us, as official representatives in Russia, to see Trekz Air headphones unchanged - it turns out and went through the design.

So if you are going to cosplay Mysterio on Halloween, then welcome . It will not take much. (There will be a joke now):

Meanwhile, these are headphones that Tony Stark could have made.

Thank you all for your attention.
