I walked around with new iPhones and watches for two weeks and all this time I tried to write down questions that my friends and colleagues asked me. I answer them here and am ready to answer additional comments.

What is the difference between 11 and 10 iPhones?

If very briefly, we changed the processor, improved the cameras in the front and back, added support for Wi-Fi 6 (ax), and also increased the battery capacity and reduced power consumption - that is, longer battery life.

The iPhone 11 is like the XR, that is, the youngest model in the lineup. And the Pro and Pro Max are like the XS and XS Max, powerful devices with a third additional camera and an especially long battery life.



Subjectively, all three models began to work faster and longer. The difference on the large “firmware” is especially noticeable, but this is logical - the most capacious battery is there.

Has the new line changed its size?

The basic models are generally identical, and for those that are more powerful, you will not find the difference without a caliper and scales. Differences in fractions of a millimeter and several grams. Diagonals of displays have not changed.

What about iron?

New iPhones are built on the A13 Bionic chip. It is made according to the "improved" 7-nanometer process technology. There are six main cores: two high-performance and four energy-efficient. These are respectively two Lightning at 2.65 GHz and four Thunder at 1.8 GHz.



There are 18 cores on this chip. In addition to the main cores, there are four more graphic cores, and the eight-core Neural Engine.

At the presentation, Apple stated that all the cores have become more powerful, but at the same time consume less energy than the previous generation:

• high-performance - 20% more powerful and 30% energy efficient,
• cores for basic tasks - 20% more powerful and 40% energy efficient,
• graphics module - 20% more powerful and 40% energy efficient,
• Neural Engine - 20% more powerful and 15% more energy efficient.

The chip is made by the Taiwanese company TSMC on the new process technology, which itself calls the N7 Pro. How it differs from the N7 + process no one knows.



Officially, RAM in all smartphones in the 4 gigabyte line. Although there is information on the Internet that there is another 2 GB of RAM, tightly reserved for the camera and Deep Fusion image processing technology.

How much memory is available?

• iPhone 11: 64, 128, and 256 GB
• iPhone 11 Pro (Max): 64, 256, and 512 GB The "firmware" does not have a 128-gigabyte version.

Is there a difference between 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max apart from the diagonal?

No. These are two essentially identical models with different display sizes and batteries of different capacities. The processor, cameras, memory, case materials, colors - all this is identical.

How do they shoot? Show me the pictures.

Older models are equipped with three 12-megapixel lenses.

• Telephoto lens: 52 mm, aperture ratio - f / 2.0, matrix - 1 / 3.4 ”. Optical stabilization is much cooler than in the previous model - the image almost does not tremble.
• Wide-angle: 26 mm, aperture - f / 1.8, matrix - 1 / 2.55 ”, optical stabilization.
• Extra wide-angle: 13 mm, aperture - f / 2.4, matrix - 1 / 3.4 ”, no optical stabilization.

• Front camera: also 12 megapixels., 23 mm, aperture f / 2.4, slow-mo 120 fps.

The telephoto and wide-angle lens have increased maximum ISO. On the one hand, this means that there will be more noise at the highest sensitivity. On the other hand, that there will be less noise at the usual values.

The Pro has three cameras, and the base iPhone 11 has two. Where are which?

The regular iPhone 11 of the three new cameras got only two: wide-angle and ultra-wide-angle. A telephoto is only in the "proshok".

Does the iPhone 11 have a night mode?

Yes there is. It only works on the default camera, which is 26 mm. On the "super wide" mode is not supported, however, this is the case on the Pro-versions.

AI taught to better handle the edges of objects in portrait mode?

Maybe a little bit. I didn’t notice much difference - hair, hair, translucent objects - all this is still not the easiest task for the Neural Engine, at times the edges are unnaturally blurred. But! Now the neural network recognizes cats during shooting (I suspect dogs too) and automatically focuses on them.

How strongly do the cameras protrude from the case?

Visibly perform. About a millimeter. But this is leveled by a cover, which I would advise to buy without fail, since the glass is on iPhones on both sides. And although the back glass is exactly the same in terms of impact resistance as the front one, to drop it means most likely to break the device. By the way, the easiest way is to drop the Pro version, because there is a frosted rear window, and it slides in your hands.

Is it true that it will be possible to shoot video from several cameras at once?

All right. But the innovation concerns more likely not the new models, but the new iOS 13. The standard application does not support this chip, but it should work in the updated version of the FiLMiC Pro program. In it, you can select any two cameras (including the front), from which streams will be recorded. When exactly the update will be released, they do not say, but promise that in 2019. Here are the supported devices:

• iPhone 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max
• iPhone XS / XSMax
• iPhone XR
• iPad Pro 3 Gen (11 ″ and 12.9 ″)

Is Face ID unlock faster?

It seems to be yes, but I had not had any difficulty with this before. It is precisely felt that the angle at which the face scanner is working has become wider - now less often you need to directly turn the whole head in his direction.

What colors is the iPhone 11 available in?

All colors are as pastel as possible, although the back of the case is glossy. For example, the yellow XR was yellower than the iPhone 11. And the coral is no more.

And what color is Pro?

The back of the “flash” is matte, and the area around the camera is glossy on the contrary. There are four colors: dark green, gold, steel and black.

What OS is installed on the eleventh iPhones?

The most current software version at the time of writing this post is iOS 13.1.2. Of the noticeable improvements, it finally removed a bug with a dark screen that occurs for a few seconds when the camera starts.

How much battery is really enough?

I usually take "shovels", so I can fully compare older models. The 11 Pro runs autonomously much longer than I'm used to on the iPhone XS Max. At first, when I took pictures more than usual and generally tested the new model “for strength”, the difference was not very noticeable. But when the mode of use settled down, I felt an increase and even measured it. It turned out for those same 4-5 hours more, about which they spoke at the presentation. I remove the device from charging 100% at 8 am, I do not connect it to the adapter during the day, and by midnight he still has 15-20 percent. If I allowed myself to do this on the XS Max, then somewhere on the way home, at 9-10 o’clock in the evening, I looked at the red 3% and thought: would I reach the smartphone to the outlet or pass out on the road?



The iPhone 11 is not so noticeable compared to the XR. It is stated that it will work an hour longer, but here, of course, it all depends on what you do with it.

Is there 5G support?

No. But from the “new and fast wireless” there is Wi-Fi 6 .

Prices for the previous line decreased?

Yes. IPhone 8 and 8 Plus have become much cheaper - up to 35 and 40 thousand rubles for the minimum configuration, respectively. In terms of performance, they are still very relevant.

• Last year's “budget” XR with a minimum amount of memory can be found for 44 000 ₽.
• At the same time, the older model of 2017 - iPhone X - is now starting from 54 000 ₽.
• It's funny that the new iPhone 11 is even a little cheaper than the XS: 58 000 ₽ against 59 000 ₽, respectively. The XS has a slightly smaller display, but it is made using OLED technology, not LCD and its resolution is higher.
• The minimum price for XS Max is about 64 000 ₽.

What didn’t you like?

The iPhone 11 got rid of 3D Touch. It was damn convenient to move the cursor harder by clicking on any part of the keyboard. Now this function only works by long pressing the space bar. In general, almost the same, but it requires more attention. Two weeks later, I still often miss. I did not suspect how often I used this chip on the XS Max - there that a small vibration reported that the function was activated.

What did you like?

Operating time is definitely something for which it is worth moving to the "firmware".



The cameras are top: the night mode is good and the ultra-wide angle is also a great thing. Yes, the night mode was already in the top models of Huawei, LG showed a wide angle a few years ago. Now it is in the iPhone, which I'm used to, and implemented the way I'm used to.



Suddenly - I liked the sound. Very loud speakers and do not wheeze even at maximum. Comparable to some kind of micro-column type JBL Clip.

Which iPhone to choose in the fall of 2019?

I assume that everyone wants up-to-date software and a sane amount of memory. So we will dance on which models iOS 13 is available, and the lower bar on the drive is 32 GB. These are iPhone 6s (Plus), SE, 7 (Plus), 8 (Plus), X, XR, XS (Max), iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro (Max). Only 14 options. I’ll answer with such a picture.

What's new in the fifth series?

The display is made using LTPO technology and therefore can always be turned on, reducing the brightness and refresh rate of the image to 1 Hz. A trifle, but this is what I loved Pebble for - no need to raise your hand to watch the time. However, the display can be turned off completely by setting the Theater mode. In it, the display does not turn on until you touch it.

The compass allows you to show the direction on the maps (if you suddenly use them on the clock). By the way, Yandex has not yet implemented this thing at home. And in Apple Maps, of course, it already works.

New 64-bit S5 processor. Of course, he makes everything that happens on the watch faster. Compared to Series 4, it’s not very noticeable, but if you face it with the second generation, for example, it’s space.



Series 5 has more memory. The fourth series had 16 GB, now 32.







iFixit estimates that fifth-generation battery capacity is about 10% higher. In real life, this allows the watch to work for about a day, although 18 hours of battery life are claimed. Maybe the fact is that the watch (and hence the battery) is still new, but I do not use the gadget so tightly. Basically, I watch time, check notifications, sometimes listen to music from my watch via BT. Plus, the sleep tracker turns on at night.



Watch OS 6 adds a calculator, voice recorder, application store and a program to track the cycle - girls will appreciate.

Ceramic and titanium cases - cool?

It's funny, but they will not be sold in Russia. At least for now - since these versions exist only with a virtual SIM. Apple says that certification of devices with eSIM in Russia is difficult.

What to take if I am going to buy?

Series 3 - from 16 000 ₽. Still fast, with current OS, GPS and water protection.

Series 4 - from 27 000 ₽. All the same + a large display, like the Series 5 + ECG , which in Russia does not work due to certification.

Series 5 - from 32 000 ₽. Always-on display, compass, more memory, faster and longer work.



Total If you want to save significantly - of course, the third generation. If the choice is between Series 4 and Series 5, then take new ones - there will be more joys, and their “margin of safety” is higher.
