When I wrote reviews on the
Compaq LTE laptop, I didn’t think I would be so tightened on the toy part. But, as it turned out, there is much more “work" than I thought. For example, a bunch of games that were already played in the nineties turned out to be from the eighties. Plus, one pulls the other - the second part of the first, etc.
Why are toys wooden? Well, against today's background, they look exactly like wooden ones. And some are even nailed to the ceiling. But it’s not a minus, it’s the opposite plus - it developed the imagination. And today everything is right away in the picture, nothing needs to be imagined. And in general, many games now also "- you, what, and
there are sweets for me will you play for me? - Aha! "
As a result, the conceived short list of favorite games and the description of launching them on the laptop turned into a not very brief retrospective of what he played (or saw how they play) and which left a noticeable mark in his memory - even if he didn’t really like it. But the laptop went into the background somewhere. Although, of course, it will sometimes peek out.
Games will go in chronological order by release year. In some cases, differences are possible plus or minus a year - different editions of games, etc.
I only played on the PC. Yes, there were several years when I cheated on MS with MSX and other dendas, but these were mistakes of youth, and even not of their own free will - then they sailed more and more with the current, to which there was access - they played with that. For example, I felt the same spectrums only a few times in game clubs - until they were replaced with game consoles. Therefore, the selection includes only games that were released on the PC.
Of course, the eighties is only the era of the emergence of the RS as a master race, because many games were released simultaneously on several platforms - apple, amiga, atari, etc. Therefore, if you played Prince of Persia on your Apple II in 1989, there is no need to make a claim that it will be on my list in 1990 - because it was then that he joined the PC.
I can well miss some games - even despite the fact that to someone they will seem very noticeable. It’s just that either they didn’t get to me in those days, or I was still very young to understand them. If you think that you didn’t mention something very important for the story - write.
Well, to simplify my life, I started a lot here in the dosbox, it's easier to take screenshots. Otherwise, you must either take a picture of the screen or take screenshots in dos in 320x200, and then enlarge them. But on the laptop, I also launched them, in order to at least see the features of launching on real hardware. Iron, recall, Pentium 120.
1982
Paratrooper
It seems like this is the oldest game that I've played. Well, one of the first, by itself. The gameplay is the simplest - in the center of the anti-aircraft gun screen, helicopters fly from above, throwing paratroopers. If on one side on the earth there are 4 paratroopers, they build a pyramid and blow up an anti-aircraft gun. To prevent this, you need to shoot down helicopters and parachutes. After you have shot down several helicopters, bombers arrive and try to throw a bomb. It must be brought down, otherwise instant death. I never really succeeded, although I reached the bombers, but I couldn’t shoot down bombs anymore.
It works without problems on a laptop.
1983
Digger
“When Digger broke his legs, he began to move on wheels.” What else can I say? I was told the bike that at one enterprise in the workshop there was a computer on which they played digger. And when the change was surrendered, the computer with the digger also gave up - it was necessary to continue the game. By the way, many were not aware that it was possible to shoot - F1. At least I found out about this much later. But Popcorn and Chopin remember everything from there.
On the laptop does not work fine - he does not like VGA. And the speed will be too big, already at 386 we played using the Digger Loader.
Frogger
Arcade toy reissued on PC Sierra On-Line. It was everywhere, because it was on the PC that I did not play it, as far as I remember. I played on MSX. But the process was the same everywhere, so I’m adding to the list. The goal is to bring the frog to the opposite edge of the screen. The frog dies from any sneeze and cannot swim. On the laptop, it normally works through a slowdown (moslo).
Galaxian
Also a classic with machines and ports on all platforms. One screen, the ship moves below, the enemies move above - you need to kill everyone. I did not cause much interest, but it is necessary to mention. On laptop it starts, but moslo does not save. But it works with bremze.
Lode runner
It’s also a one-screen game, but this time it’s kind of written specifically for staffers. The task is to collect all the boxes at the level, then the transition to the next one opens and you still have to run to it. What enemies are actively interfering with, for the fight with which you can dig holes.
There is no fountain with a laptop either - moslo only works partially. While you do not touch the buttons - everyone runs at normal speed. As soon as you touch - everyone starts to rush like a jet. Bremze does not help either.
Pac-man
I did not play the original pacman - because I got to computers much later. But he didn’t have any clones - only the design changed, and the idea of the game remained the same. Labyrinth, you have to eat all the points and not get caught by enemies. There are four points that allow you to temporarily eat and enemies. I played a clone called CD-MAN, it will be on the list, but later.
With the slowdown, the same story as Lode Runner - when you press the buttons, they accelerate, but bremze saves here.
Tapper
The bartender watered the visitors of the saloon, filling the mug and sending it at the counter to the client. The client is pushed back. The goal is to drive out all visitors - then the next level will begin. I remember the game only because I played it on a black and white robot, where there were only two games - including this one. It hangs with moslo, it works normally with bremze, only with a big slowdown the sound disappears.
1984
Alley cat
The cat wants to meet a cat. On the main screen you need to jump into the window, in the windows - various mini-games like “eat food from sleeping dogs”, “eat all the mice in a large piece of cheese”, “catch fish in an aquarium with electric eels”, etc. After you win a mini-game, they give a chance to meet a cat - also a mini-game where you have to get past competitors. It works on the laptop, the slowdown is not needed.
By the way, there is a modern remake -
Remeow Edition . New graphics, a couple of new levels - at the same time it is possible to turn on the graphics and sound of old versions, not only the PC, but also Atari, for example. The process itself has not changed a bit.
Boulder dash
I did not play the original Boulder Dash, but spent a lot of time behind Supaplex. Therefore, I considered it necessary to mention. Labyrinth, it is necessary to collect some stones, while trying to not be bombarded with other stones. Slowdown is not needed, it also works normally on the laptop.
Sopwith
Aircraft. It can fly, it can fire a machine gun, it can throw bombs. It was fun to fly, but we did not know the target and tried to kill everything. But there was always not enough ammunition, because in the end they were broken. It was possible to play against the computer, and in later releases there was support for the game against humans through the COM port or modem. The first version wants to slow down, but it's better to take a newer release, and not mess around with the delay.
Xonix
Another game that I did not play, but played in later clones. Control a point that runs along the edge of the screen and should paint over a certain percentage of the field. The field is painted when you circle a piece in which there are no enemies. Enemies - balls on the field and another point that runs through your shaded. I did not start it on real hardware - I wanted drive A: but I did not agree to subst. But the problem is small, this is one of those games that is easy to find a replacement.
1985
Robot odyssey
And this is one of those games that I never played, I just saw how they play. And, as far as I remember, it wasn’t on the PC. There was one computer of some other breed in the summer camp among the RS with a green monitor and with this game. Given the platform, it was most likely Apple II. The player failed in the underground city of robots and must get out of there, programming the three robots he has to solve puzzles. Robots have sensors, they can communicate with each other, etc. Even today, this toy seems complicated to me by description. And in childhood ...
On the laptop, it started without any slowdowns, but some of the buttons do not work, which prevents normal play
Well, for now I’ll finish this, so as not to dump a lot right away.
Because by the end of the eighties the number of released games was increasing and it could be difficult to fit even in one year in one post of the game.
Personal gold fund from the above (which sometimes come back to play a couple of levels):
Digger
Alley cat
Sopwith
