Signature radar detector overview: our flagship Playme Silent 2

Today we talk about the new Playme Silent 2 radar detector, which replaced the flagship Playme Silent, introduced in 2016. In this post we consider the features of the new items, the principles of protection against false positives, as well as a more convenient interface. For those interested, all the details under the cut.

Playme Silent 2 features a new design. Purely aesthetically, designers complemented black with gray, made plastic inserts, and also added gloss. The radar detector received a more informative screen.

Control buttons - four pieces, each performs two functions. Organized quick access to all the most popular options such as changing the mode, brightness, volume, setting a custom POI point.

The model is made mainly of matte plastic. Gloss is found on the frame around the display. Because a) it is beautiful b) the buttons are at a sufficient distance from the screen so as not to touch the area around it and get dirty.

On the left side of the screen is a round power connector.

On the opposite side, there is a miniUSB connector for downloading fresh firmware and camera locations from a computer.

Features

Especially for Playme Silent 2, a completely new interface has been developed that allows you to compactly display all the important information at once on a 1.3-inch screen

The entire left column is devoted to the types of cameras from the base of the GPS-informant. From top to bottom, there are settings for speed control, the average speed of the intersection, the designated lane, roadside and freight transport. In order for all types of alerts to fit on three icons, two “shortcuts” are highlighted to indicate some cameras. For example, for speed cameras, the camera and traffic light icons are lit simultaneously.

The display of the radar signal strength was originally performed. Usually it is shown as five increasing in height divisions. In this model, there is a semicircle above the dial, divided into six numbered parts. The more intense the signal, the more zones are filled. Such an organization allows the most efficient and clear use of the compact screen space.

It's easy to deal with the operating modes - there are only three of them: “City”, “Track” and “Smart”. In the "City" by default, the radar detector shows warnings only on the screen, without sounding at speeds up to 60 km / h, in the case of "Tracks" - up to 100 km / h. Thresholds can be changed in the settings. The Smart mode provides automatic switching of the modes depending on speed.

At the same time, the features of Russian traffic rules were taken into account. There is a parameter for permissible speeding, the setting is from 0 to 20 km / h in increments of 5 km / h. For example, if you set 10 km / h, then in the "City" mode the radar detector will not issue any warnings by GPS informant to a threshold of 70 km / h.

Installation

To install a radar detector in a car, two options are offered - mounting on a pair of suction cups for the windshield and anti-slip (moreover, on both sides) mat.

The choice of fasteners depends on the personal preferences of the motorist and does not fundamentally affect the quality of radar detection.

In work

But now about the most interesting thing - about filtering interference created by CAS systems. The model shows the best noise immunity in the "City" mode, when both signature technology and the Anti-CAS system work at the same time. The latter is intended for “targeted” detection and ignoring of signals from various and extremely common CAS sensors in current megacities. Most alerts occur according to the GPS informer, and also if the device detects a newly installed radar with a known signature.

GPS informant gives the following types of alerts:

Data is updated approximately once a month. During this time, "squads" of employees track the emergence of new cameras. Such workers identify new installations, adjust and verify data on current radars. Similar Playme groups work in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Kazan, as well as in the immediate suburbs of these megacities. In addition, once a month, our “reviewers” go on a business trip to a region.

Thanks to this, the Playme Silent 2 is completely ready for confident radar detection both within the city and on the highway. In most cases (you understand - the terrain, terrain features) Playme Silent 2 provides a sufficient margin for a timely reduction in speed. The distance varies from 400 to 1600 meters, including for low-power radars such as SKAT or OSKON. Also, among others, the device detects Avtouragan, Amata, Binar, Vizir, Spark, MTS band control cameras, Cordon, Krechet, Chris-P, LISD, Radis and Robot.

Conclusion

The megaobzor.com site, highly experienced in terms of reviews of radar detectors, has already named Playme Silent 2 "the best radar detector on the Russian market for combining the effectiveness of detection and filtering interference." The model combines a non-trivial design, an effective fight against false alerts and a high warning distance on radars and cameras. In other words, the Playme Silent 2 is an easy-to-operate and extremely efficient radar detector at a reasonable price of 9,290 rubles.

Interestingly, we tried to maintain reasonable arithmetic. The Playme Silent 2 costs 9,290 rubles, and the Playme P600SG costs almost 16,000 rubles. In other words, Super HD combos will cost about the price of separately purchasing a top-class radar detector and an excellent video recorder with a recording in 1296p resolution. So lovers of universal devices can read our previous post about the Playme P600SG .
