A little over a month has passed since the last post. All this time we constantly worked on the project and continue to move in the right direction. The Another Way picture is starting to take on color. For those who want to know how it all began, I suggest that you familiarize yourself with a short story written earlier - Through thorns to a dream game . Thanks to this map, we have not only a mental representation of our world, but also can fully embody ideas in the gaming area. Thus, we created a site that will include the northeastern key points - the kingdom of Markam with its villages, a forest of thousands of shadows and a small area of ​​the edge of eternal fogs.

Already, we have laid the main routes, the royal highway, village paths and completed the forest frame with thousands of shadows, and despite the fact that living creatures live only on test sites for debugging the combat system, the visual part gradually begins to become saturated with the right atmosphere.

One of the problems in creating the terrain was the dynamic lighting of the scene. I had to go through many options in order to get the current image. If you show it visually, you get a comparison of two pictures from the category "before" and "after".

Most often, we happened to listen to reviews like “The idea is good, but where is the gameplay”, “Did you make beautiful screenshots, but is there enough power to make the game?” And all that. Probably everyone who has come across game development understands that many of the aspects take up a huge amount of time. Nevertheless, we prepared a couple of videos demonstrating some starting mechanics that we were able to fasten during the allotted time.





Of course, everything demonstrated will be finalized. By animations, by sound, by fonts and by all other aspects. This is just a “base” that contributes to the further development of Another Way.





If on the release we want to position the game with a postscript “with elements of interactive cinema” we need to get high-quality facial animations. We are experimenting in this direction and one of the not entirely successful attempts you can see below.





Well, what kind of Real Time RPG from a third party without a combat system. Therefore, the rudiments of this, we also cut into a small video series.





For most mechanics, we use assets from the marketplace, some of them are being finalized, modified after being combined with other systems, but only thanks to these developments we can get such fast progress in such a short time and make a complete picture out of it. Strange, but even in this we are reproached from time to time. Like, “They set up everything ready and are happy,” it’s hard for me to remember when I slept for more than 4 hours in the last month, giving all my strength and emotions to this game.

We are always trying to position the project as something that can tell a unique story in a unique world, we decided to share a piece of scripting work, this is a visual representation of the decision tree and (for those who are not afraid of spoilers) a script document of the prologue scene .

We try to pay great attention to the bestiary of our universe. In our VKontakte group, we publish short stories about each of the creatures, we have already talked about the Hagvos , the Indestructible Gurr , where the Restless came from , what the Underground Worm is , and why the Howlers cry in the Ellignum forest.



After several posts on thematic resources, we were able to find like-minded people. And now our team has specialists in creating models of the environment, in creating creatures, concept art artists and voice actors. This will make it possible in the near future to build the first settlements and supplement our material with unique content. We continue to participate in the contest from Disgusting Men and Epic Games for a grant. The next screening contestants should take place after September 4, that is, in the very near future. I hope we were able to show enough progress to be among those who went further.
