October Product Management Digest

Hello, Habr! I am experimenting with the format, so I decided to write this digest. Not so important who you are, the most important is your interest in digital and the desire to learn a little more about product management. I will write a lot about it, but not only. The main news will be from various product sources and associations, which I talk about on my channel . Briefly go through the nominations: the best product, development track, life stories. The result of the article will be a calendar of events in the field of "food" in October.

The best product - I will talk about unusual products and services that have met on the Internet.

The development track is one of the youngest in Russia. Although there are already standards and requirements, but they do not allow to cover the whole picture. Articles will be devoted to how to develop in the product direction: what competencies to pump, what market trends, where to go?

Life Stories - in order to come up with an idea, you need an “input stream”: role models, interesting projects, and more.

The format will change, I will take into account the feedback in the comments. Enjoy reading.

Nomination "Best Product"

Telefuel - an improved Telegram client, similar to Slack

With the growing popularity of Telegram and using it to get a wide variety of information, the problem of flooding and sorting notifications has appeared. How often have you not noticed an important message in their total mass?

The main feature of the application is that you have a vertical navigation bar on the left. In this panel you can group chats, and already within these groups sort them by categories. It works like this: the user, for example, creates thematic groups “buyers” and “family”, adds chats there and creates the categories “closed the deal”, “waiting for payment”, “negotiation stage”, “potential buyer”. What is not a CRM system? Chats can be dragged between categories with the mouse.

Additionally, the client has a dark mode, sorting messages into unread, from groups, personal and by nickname mentions.

Feel like James Bond

The “Immortal” KABUTO hi-tech suitcase, which opens with a fingerprint, is what you need to apply for coolness. It would seem that we saw everything, but not that. I rarely write about a hard product, but this suitcase is an exception:

  1. 10,000 mAh battery

  2. Special removable portfolio department for storing documents, laptop, tablet, phone, charging devices automatically;

  3. Lock with touch id.

Just look at this video about the suitcase, which is not another Q device for the Bond.

Documentary video essay and cool product

A cool documentary video essay by Noah Levenson in collaboration with Mozilla on how artificial intelligence reads our faces and emotions and what it does with them (you are unlikely to like the answer). Well, if you still thought that they were not listening to you and were not watching or watching your swipes, then it was time to transform into paranoid.

Kaif, or a minute of hugs

Every time I use it and I get micro-delight: when the password comes in SMS to confirm the operation on the card → the system pulls it out into the keyboard sage. Instead of memorizing or copying / pasting, you just click on it - and the password is substituted into the field.

And further. I want to hug the person who realized this.

Nomination "Development Track"

An article about why not only Durov return the wall!

I was one of the first VK users, and still can’t stand Facebook, although as a product I can enjoy watching and interpreting the work of the FB team.

Facebook feed history. She (the tape) is already 10 years old. An article about how the company came to this, how they dived into implementation, what they changed and what it all led to. I warn you, the article is in English.

How difficult it is to work with 20 year olds and why it is so cool

I am a millennial - a representative of a generation of people born in the late 80s - early 90s. We are called Generation Y and Generation MeMeMe. Millennials were born in an era of globalization, industrialization and the availability of digital technology. We want to be in the spotlight, and Generation Y in Russia has achieved everything on its own.

Our dashing zeros passed, and the Z generation (also known as iGeneration. English Homelanders, Homeland Generation or New Silent Generation) appeared - a generation of people born after about 1995. They are different, they argue, they have their own opinion, how can we work with them?

I read this story and found a bunch of references to my work as a team with interns, working with students.

Rapid prototyping and product management

One of the coolest practitioners in the industry is Tom Chi (not to be confused with Kim Chi's dish). For over 15 years, he has been using a rapid prototyping tool for everything from software development to hardware, design organizations. And many of the lessons he learned in the field of rapid prototyping are directly related to the discipline of product management.

I recommend to watch (video in English).

Nomination "Life Stories"

Video about the Cube in the cube:

Ruslan Gabidullin / Cube in Cuba - Amediateka, Silicon Valley and Netflix Challenges.

Events to Watch

Worth a look

And one more small offtop - I will take two interviews in November and December:

  1. Arina Egorova, ex-director of innovation at Ward Howell, co-founder of careerspace.app and author of the career-free telegram channel “Without aspera ad astra”, talks about how to build a second career and not get screwed up in the process.

  2. Interview with Maxim Dorofeev. Why do adults often do important things at the last moment?

Grocery calendar

I plan at least to watch presentations from several events, maybe even go. Product Fest December 9th, come. By the way, for subscribers to my channel, the blackproduct promotional code for the product fest is valid with a 15% discount, my report is selected for the performance.

To summarize

By October, you can be treated like a filler of the year. Filler (from the English filler, placeholder) in series with a cross-cutting plot - additional material not related to the main plot, added to increase the duration of the show. However, October becomes largely indicative of how the organization and company can go through this stage, how to survive until December?
