Visualization of distant frontiers: space, cyberpunk, subconscious

Artist Seamless

Visualization of goals increases the possibility of achieving them. Data visualization generally increases the availability of information to an unprepared audience. Finally, visually presented information is faster and easier to read and remember than regular text and tables.

But what if we want to tell with the help of graphics about structurally complex or even abstract knowledge, about emotions, impressions, dreams and experiences? Is it possible to visualize a dream about space, a premonition of the future, invisible intergalactic phenomena? Some digital design artists are taking on the role of visionaries of the unconscious.

Sometimes works can inspire no worse than classic fiction and retro-futurism. Today we will meet them.

Lacabezaenlasnubes

Like the revived worlds of William Hodgson are looking at you from the screen: the world billions of years later, when the Sun went out, and the Earth, breaking away from the dead Solar system, set off on its own sailing along the gravitational waves of the Milky Way.

Fran Rodriguez from Barcelona is known in the world of art under the nickname Lacabezaenlasnubes, which means “head in the clouds” in Spanish. His surreal drawing style can be interpreted as an attempt to comprehend images from dreams that subtly resemble life on a planet that has undergone amazing (and terrible) cataclysms: from the death of the Sun to a spatio-temporal gap.

Lacabezaenlasnubes worked as a freelance designer in Heineken, ING, HSBC and Lucky Strike, and today, having gained enough experience in offline and online art projects, he creates as a freelance artist.

Greta pasha

Italian Greta Pasha is an artist from another planet: she finds inspiration in space and time. What seems absurd and pathological to you becomes the norm for its distorted reality.

In addition, Greta Pasha is also an interior designer, although they are not as impressive as the “free” art. It combines various multimedia works well, creating breathtaking landscapes using various techniques.

Greta Pasha began unconsciously making collages when she was 10 years old, stapling paper, herbarium, butterflies, etc., creating a common composition from them. Now she left the butterflies alone and completely switched to digital collages.

Sean foley

Wet streets and cool blue tones, moist air smears the reflected light into a soft neon glow - all this is an amazing cyberpunk in which we are not familiar with cables, robots and modifications of the human body. Cyberpunk appeared here as the atmosphere and state of the human soul.

Sean Foley from Hong Kong achieves an amazing effect without involving fiction, only due to clear photorealism. His works look like photographs, but their main feature is the play of colors and shadows.

For some reason, when looking at the modern landscapes of Hong Kong, an image of the nearby future is drawn, in which a person is left face to face with a large, thinking and very hungry city. For Sean Foley, the streets are the cradle of souls, home to life, people, energy.

Annisa tiara utami

Annisa Tiara Utami from Indonesia creates imaginary worlds in which she would like to be. Her mysterious works are filled with the feeling of the discovery of the unknown, the first space flights and the landing on Mars.

Annisa Tiara Utami is a self-taught illustrator and graphic designer. All her works are mainly related to nature and space. Interestingly, they are made in the technique of collage, which has become one of the most popular forms of art in recent years.

Bizarre manipulations with photographs help to “reinvent” the familiar cosmos and show worlds that the mind comforted in Hollywood rational cosmic fiction has not yet guessed about.

Dkaism

Filipino-Canadian artist Daniel Ignacio boldly mixes elements of fantasy and cyberpunk. Its atmosphere is futurism, heroism and surrealism, equally proportioned spread over a digital canvas.

Daniel Ignacio works not only in numbers - he also paints with acrylics. Daniel was also a professional writer and photojournalist.

Today, the author, under the nickname Dkaism, creates surreal scenes and picturesque city landscapes. According to him, a surreal series of works gives him the opportunity to demonstrate drama, simplicity, emotionality, and through colors to express himself, his beliefs, as well as what he wants to convey to the world.

Nicebleed

Filipino brothers Francis Minoza and Laurence Minoza have been exploring near space since 2008 in the Nicebleed team. Lying under an umbrella with a beautiful view of the end of the world is really a cosmic experience.

The main character of most of their works is the astronaut - the figure is more mythological and metaphorical than real.

A wide range of visual techniques allows the brothers to combine flora, fauna, dark and creepy graphic design and elements of pop culture into an amazing mix of surreal art.

Enkel dika

A lone traveler embarks on a long journey to an impossible place - a frequent theme for Enkel Dika. The artist directly promotes space tourism for recreation, leisure and business purposes.

He creates illustrations combining geeky references to modern and abstract art, and easily combines animals, stars, the moon, water and fairy-tale images.

Enkel Dika not only draws, but also photographs various objects so that they look mystical and hypnotic. Sometimes it’s impossible to say a clean drawing in front of us or a magically neat collage.

Frank moth

Greek artist Frank Moth rethought retro-futurism and began creating nostalgic postcards from a distant but familiar future. He makes digital collages and compositions with special characteristic and well-recognizable color palettes. Works often use advertisements from old newspapers and fashion magazines issued several decades ago.

Frank Moth is actually an alias for two people whose true names are not disclosed. This is how the art of combining in one work of strongly heterogeneous elements penetrates even into real life.

Many works depict people who look at themselves and their lives on Earth from some remote place in space. The prospect of all things always seems strange between a dream and everyday life. Another characteristic element is that people usually face their backs to observers. It is also easy to notice a surreal imbalance in size and a broken connection between a person and his environment.

Seamlessoo

This space portrait is a psychedelic and surrealistic travel experience of an anonymous artist hiding under the nickname Seamlessoo.

This artist has mesmerized many people: he paints hallucinations and cosmic landscapes. For example, the picture above shows a trip along the moon.

Vivid eccentricity is a direct way to express psychedelic sensations, even if your eccentricity is just a collage, and sensations are the movement of a train in orbit (it seems) of the Earth.

Emanuela carratoni

Italian Emanuela Carratoni creates space patterns, lunar and solar calendars, which are not always easy to understand. But sometimes the main thing in space is aesthetic pleasure.

The solar system can be not just an abstract picture on the Internet, but also an element of decor in any interior.

The zodiacal pattern is another reminder of the power of stars over the human imagination. Perhaps, nothing so inspires thoughts about the appearance of the desire to master new frontiers over the dome of the sky.

It is interesting that initially a visionary is a person suffering from hallucinations, which, with a mystical mood, are often interpreted as the ability to see supernatural phenomena. Mixing different elements of retro, contemporary art and futuristic ideas is a completely new facet of visionary work. It is in this direction that it is still possible to create something new in the sphere of design overloaded with vivid images.
