And what kind of holiday is that?
There is such a portal Sec.ru which, by virtue of its focus, also proposed to declare November 12 a holiday date - Security Specialist Day.
It was assumed that this holiday will be celebrated by all people associated with the protection of people and values. However, with the spread of computer technology and the growth of IT offenses, this red date began to acquire an ever-increasing IT focus.
No, well, it’s clear what about security, but specifically?
IT security is an enormous layer of human knowledge that includes a wide variety of areas and directions.
There are experts who prevent network attacks, thanks to which we can connect not only individual computers to the Network (we remember ARPANET), but also entire states.
There are cryptography experts, including mathematicians. Mathematicians developing the very same encryption algorithms and steganography methods, thanks to which we can assume that information is transmitted and stored in integrity and confidentiality.
There are those who are struggling with malicious code, are studying the software implementation of various viruses and trojans (malware and stalkerware) so that our computers and mobile devices remain free from all trash.
There is a whole area whose experts are involved in security systems. Including exciting area familiar to us - video surveillance (CCTV). And there are also those who design and arrange all kinds of sensors (detectors), control units, analysis systems. Therefore, it is not so simple to steal or spy on protected objects.
There are specialists in working with people whose sphere of activity includes searching for insiders and protecting against attacks using social engineering. And these are not only administrators blocking USB ports, but also experts from various fields, including psychologists who can recognize and smooth out “protest
mood "in the team.
There are experts who check the safety of ready-made devices. They look for "bookmarks", check for the possibility of leaks through electromagnetic radiation. Also a very interesting area of IT security.
There are many more different directions ...
And there are many situations when a single person is responsible for everything at once.
And thanks to these people, we use computers, not being afraid that the information will “leak to the side” or simply turn out to be wrong. Each of these people contributes, small or large, to the overall fight against IT threats.
When all is well, we usually don’t notice them, and sometimes even scold how much in vain because of additional “troubles” like long passwords or “always dissatisfied” antiviruses.
