Student Olympiad "I am a Professional"

The goal of the “I am a Professional” Olympiad is to test not only the theoretical knowledge of students, but also their professional skills. Tasks are made by professors of large Russian universities and specialists of IT companies. Proven participants will be able to enter domestic universities without exams. And get an internship at Yandex, Sberbank and other organizations.
“I am a professional” is an attempt to exclude situations when students hear the phrase: “Forget about everything that you were taught at the university.” So that companies do not have to retrain a fully trained specialist. The project was organized by the All-Russian Association of Employers and more than 20 leading universities of Russia. The technical partner is Yandex.
Students can participate in the Olympiad in natural science, technical, and humanities departments. A total of 27 areas are available - for example, Automotive, Software Engineering, Biotechnology and others. ITMO University oversees Programming and IT , Information and Cybersecurity, Big Data , Photonics , and Robotics .
Last year, more than 3 thousand people became winners of the Olympiad (many in several directions at once). They received benefits for admission to graduate and postgraduate studies, cash prizes and invitations to leading companies in the country.
You can apply for participation in the Olympics this year until November 18 . From November 22 to December 8 qualifiers will be held - in an online format. Winners will enter the full-time stage of the competition.
Scholarship competition from the Vladimir Potanin Charity Fund
When: October 12 - November 20

First-year and second-year full-time students of partner universities - MSTU im. N. E. Bauman, Moscow Engineering Physics Institute, European University (EUSP) and 72 more universities. Here you will need to demonstrate your creative, leadership and intellectual qualities. The competition will be held in two stages:
- Correspondence - in the format of a popular science essay on the topic of a master's thesis.
- Full-time - in the format of business games, interviews and work on practical cases.
The main prize is a monthly scholarship in the amount of 20 thousand rubles before graduation from the magistracy.
"Professional training 2.0"
When: September 10 - November 30
Where: online
The competition is held by the non-profit organization “Russia - the Land of Opportunities” in partnership with the All-Russian Popular Front. Participants must choose one of the cases proposed by partner companies and solve it within the framework of term paper, qualification or other work.
Examples of cases : to offer an idea management system for Magnit, to work out a marketing campaign to attract customers from the Asian market for Aeroflot. There are also assignments from Rostelecom, Rosatom and other organizations.
Students and graduate students up to 35 years old can participate. The winners will undergo practical training and gain access to training materials on the platform of ANO "Russia - the country of opportunities."
ICPC Programming World Championship Quarter Final

Where: at ITMO University
In early October, the ICPC qualifying round was held in the North-West Russia region. ICPC is a team programming competition for students (we talked about them in detail in our blog ). In total, 120 teams passed qualifications. The top 25 included ten teams from ITMO University. On October 26, students will gather at our quarter-final competition. The best representatives of universities will go to the finals of Northern Eurasia (this is the ICPC semi-final).

ITMO University has hosted participants in the International Competition since 2011 and remains the world record holder for the number of victories - with seven cups. And this year, ICPC opened an official representative office at our university. It was led by Matvey Kazakov, a member of ICPC 1996-1999, chairman of the technical committee and development director of ICPC NERC.
The committee staff will help with the preparation of students and coaches for the championship, deal with grants and work with sponsors. Another task of the representative office will be cooperation with graduates of the Olympiad, which are already about 320 thousand. Among them are top managers and owners of large technology companies - for example, Nikolai Durov. The plans also include the development of school competitions and the systematic training of sports programmers.

International Conference "Fundamental Optics 2019"

The conference is supported by Moscow State University. Lomonosov, Optical Society of America and other iconic organizations. Participants will discuss quantum optics, new principles of optical transmission, processing and storage of information for biology and medicine and other topics .
Also, within the framework of the conference, readings by academician Yuri Nikolaevich Denisyuk will take place. He is the author of a facility for recording holograms visible in ordinary white light (without special lasers). With its help, analog holograms are indistinguishable from real objects, the so-called optical clones. There are several such holograms in our Museum of Optics - for example, holographic copies of “ Ruby Caesar ” and “ Sign of the Order of St. Alexander Nevsky . "
ITMO.FutureCareers Career Day

An interactive platform based on ITMO University, which will bring together students and potential employers. “Medical evidence: flawed, but possible to fix!”

Lecture in English by John Ioannidis, professor of medicine at Stanford University. In 2005, he wrote an article entitled “ Why Most Published Studies Are False, ” which he published in the electronic journal PLOS Medicine. His material is the most cited in the history of the resource.
Ioannidis will explain why the conclusions of biomedical research are often wrong, and how to fix the situation. Admission to the event by pre-registration .
ITMO University in Cinema - the film "Child of the Robot"

ITMO University revives the tradition of science fiction film screenings. In the evening we watch the film "Child of the Robot". It is about the life of a child brought up by a robot in the bunker of the post-apocalyptic world. A small presentation awaits you before the film.

XIV International Film Festival of Popular Science and Educational Films “World of Knowledge”

The theme of the festival is artificial intelligence systems. In the program: seventeen scientific and educational films from Russia, the USA, France, Germany, Norway and other countries. In addition to AI systems, the paintings will touch on the impact of scientific discoveries on the world around us. Presentations of VR projects, master classes and thematic lectures will also be held.
