Sounds for UI: A Compilation of Themed Resources

We talk about the sites where you can find and download audio samples for voice acting user interface. The selection is useful to those who develop applications or games.

Sound kit for prototypes

This is a set of interactive sounds for graphical interfaces of mobile applications. It has the sounds of buttons, errors, as well as alerts and notifications. You can listen to them online on the project page. The authors of the library were designers from Facebook. They say that samples from the collection were involved in the development of sketch applications Origami and Framer .

License: Non-exclusive - allows you to use sounds when developing prototypes of applications and mockups. Audio files from the library can also be used in commercial software products - but in this case, attribution, license and links to it are required. However, if your application is a tool for designers like Origami or Framer, you must first get permission from the Facebook Design team.

Features: Sound Kit contains two folders - Full Volume and Low Volume. The first one contains audio files with a volume of -5 dB. They are suitable for showing prototypes on a computer. The volume of sounds in the second folder is reduced and is -20 dB. The authors say that they are suitable for demonstrating the application on a mobile - in this case, the speaker will not distort the sound. The library includes 39 audio files, but the authors have not updated this set since 2017.

Tonone dock

150 audio samples for scoring interfaces in games and other projects.

License: Royalty-free - samples can be modified and used for commercial purposes.

Features: The site has other collections - with Sci-Fi and EDM samples . There is a search by file format (WAV, MP3, OGG, AIFF and FLAC), as well as sample rate (for example, 44.1 or 96 kHz). To download audio samples, registration is required.

Octave

Free set of UI sounds for iOS. Its author is Fred Showell, a product designer at LiveTiles, an Australian software company. Fred says he built Octave from his own sample library, which he has been collecting for the past ten years.

License: Sounds are allowed to be used in any projects - both personal and commercial. Authorship is not required, but desirable. Of course, the library itself cannot be sold.

Features: The selection includes 48 sounds - beeps, slaps, etc. - in AIFF format with a sampling frequency of 44.1 kHz. A file with the UIButton Category is immediately attached to them, which simplifies the assignment of sounds to events in iOS and OS X. It is enough to write in the application code:

[myButton setSoundNamed:@"mySound.aif" forControlEvent: UIControlEventTouchUpInside]

The site has technical recommendations for working with sound in applications on the iPad and iPhone and designing the UI. The author also accepts orders for the development of custom sounds.

Interface sounds

A library of 500 sounds for graphical interfaces in applications and games. It was composed by an audio designer from Germany - Martin Straka. He has been writing samples for applications and game soundtracks for ten years. For example, he was a composer for the Spirits and Mr. Bounce

His tracks were even nominated for the Independent Games Festival prize - this is a conference for independent computer game developers.

License: All samples are royalty-free, they can be used for any purpose - both commercial and non-commercial. Authorship is not required.

Features: Unfortunately, only 11 audio files are distributed free of charge. To get them, just request a demo on the site. For the rest of the set will have to pay $ 29. Also, the author can record unique sounds on request.

Opengameart

This is not a simple sample library. This is a media archive with sounds, music, as well as 2D, 3D art and textures. It was developed by engineer Bart Kelsey back in 2009. Since then, the portal has acquired a vast community - new content is uploaded there approximately every 20 minutes.

License: Content presented on OpenGameArt is protected by free licenses. Among them: GNU General Public License , LGPL , as well as Creative Commons, including Attribution, Attribution Share Alike and CC0. All files are allowed to be used for commercial purposes.

Features: The number of collections with sounds (including for the UI) exceeds a thousand. To make it easier to navigate in this variety, the site runs a search - by name, tag or license.
