Conference for those who were interested in science before it became mainstream

Hello, Habr!

We may already be familiar with you. For 5 years we were part of the team that organized well-known conferences for IT professionals: DUMP, PyCon Russia, FailConf, Convert. Now we are the “Man of Sciences”.

At some point, we realized that conferences about programming languages and specific tools were held almost every month. At the same time, at the intersection of technology and science, the most amazing things are happening now, and not much is said about it. We decided to hold a conference on those areas of science that bring the future closer: on artificial intelligence and bioinformatics, on astrophysics and generative design, on neural connections and information ethics.

On January 24, 2020, in the Deworkacy space in Moscow, a conference will be held on the connection of science with modern technologies Mieloconf . This will be a big conference with reports in two streams, with powerful speakers, with activities outside the main program, on an excellent venue, with professional organization and delicious food. Everything, as we love, is in the best traditions of IT conferences. Only reports in the program will help you not to solve pressing work tasks, but to expand horizons, turn on the brain and look at problems from a different angle. Under the cut, all the details about the speakers, the program and registration.

The conference will be held for the first time, so if this topic is close to you, support us :)

What is a myelophone?

Do you know what a myelophone is? The Mielofon is a fictional device, a device for reading thoughts in the works of Cyrus Bulychev and their adaptations. You can read more in the wiki article .

In the film “A Guest from the Future”, the myelophone looks like a small black rectangular case from under the camera, inside which there are glass particles glued together into a crystal, which serves as an “amplifier” of thoughts.

The program of our conference is the very myelophone that will help participants “strengthen” and “hear” their own and other people's thoughts, look at them from the outside, give them a new form and direction.

Program committee

In the program committee, we called the smartest, in our opinion, people from the world of science and IT.

The Mieloconf program is prepared by:

Program

Each slot of the program will be dedicated to a separate science or scientific direction. Several people will talk about this science: well-known scientists and popularizers will conduct theoretical training, and then speakers from the “real sector” will tell how they use the latest scientific achievements in practice in their work.

We certainly won’t have reports about the (without) dangers of GMOs, why vaccinations do not cause autism, and that the theory of evolution is not just a theory. Each of you already knows this.

We will not dispel myths and fight obscurantism. The only myth we want to destroy is the myth that science is a sacred action that has nothing to do with “real life”. After all, science is the only reliable and most logical way to learn something about the world of technologies around us.

The program is being formed, but several speakers who will speak with us are already known:

bakunov.jpg Grigory Bakunov - Yandex Technology Distribution Director. A popularizer of programming, a successful entrepreneur and a frequent participant in many conferences. One of the creators and permanent host of the oldest and most popular Russian-language podcast on Radio-T technologies.

surdin.jpg Vladimir Surdin is a Soviet and Russian astronomer and popularizer of science. Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Associate Professor. Senior researcher at the P.K. Sternberg State Astronomical Institute, associate professor of the Physics Department of Moscow State University.

surdin.jpg Ivan Yamshchikov is a researcher at the Max Planck Institute (Leipzig, Germany), AI evangelist ABBYY , co-founder of Created Labs. He received a PhD in Applied Mathematics at Brandenburg University of Technology (Cottbus, Germany). Ivan explores how artificial intelligence works with texts and tries to figure out how speech, natural language, and thinking are related.

surdin.jpg Mikhail Gelfand - Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, member of Academia Europea. Deputy Director of the Institute for Information Transmission Problems of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Skoltekh, HSE, Moscow State University. Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the newspaper “Troitsky Variant - Science” . One of the founders of the Dissernet free network community. He is a member of the board of the Evolution Education Fund.

surdin.jpg Alexey Paevsky is an organic chemist, photographer, and scientific journalist. The editor-in-chief of the Neuronews portal, the scientific editor of the Indicator.Ru portal, the scientific editor of the popular science magazine “Klein's Bottle” (Khabarovsk), the regular author of OYLA magazine. The creator and chief editor of the portal Mendeleev.info .

Member of the Russian Geographical Society. Member of the Board of the Russian Chemical Society.

surdin.jpg Anna Horuzhaya is a doctor of radiation diagnostics. Scientific journalist. Twice winner of the Tech in Media Award for a series of articles on Neuroscience for All . Correspondent of the medical publishing house ABV-press, leading author of the newspaper Neurology Today. Deputy editor-in-chief of the Neuronews portal, a regular author of OYLA and Around the World magazines .

The final program will be ready in early December.

I want to speak

We are looking for people who can talk about how we are structured and what we can improve or change in ourselves, about modern technologies that change the quality and speed of our lives, increase productivity and create new meanings, about fundamental and applied science.

If you have something to share and you want to speak, write to us. Applications are accepted until November 27.

The main requirement for the speakers at our conference is the ability to explain complex things in clear language. We will discuss the topic of the report, the main thing is that you love the topic you want to talk about, and understand it.

I want to become a partner

We are looking for science-friendly companies and communities that want to tell the smartest people on the planet about themselves.

If your company moves science forward, develops a high-tech product, understands how and what the scientific approach influences, let's be friends! If you are engaged in the development of the scientific community and drown for the popularization of science, then let's be friends too.

We have prepared several partnership options . If you are interested in something, write to xq@mieloconf.ru, we will tell you all the details or come up with something specifically for you.

registration
