Somewhere in 1989-90, I began to play more or less regularly on PC, and not from time to time. We were hired for the weekend and for almost the whole day for three of us there were two computers with games. At that time, on a third computer, they were working in something Windows-like, but it didnāt bother us much. There were games on other computers.
Wooden toys, part two - 1986-1988
Wooden toys, part one - 1982-1985
Alien syndrome
This game was usually called simply āAliensā. On the first level, some caterpillars crawl more, and on the next level, natural aliens appear. Well, a bunch of different bosses invented by some sick mind. The goal at each level is to save a dozen crew members, then reach the exit and kill the boss. And it's all under the timer, and if they kill, then you start from the very beginning. Complicated toy. But you could play together.
Barbarian
This game was stunned at first by saying its name when launched in a human voice (via PC Speaker). And then she was stunned by completely wild control - actions had to be chosen from the āmenuā. That is, he didnāt āclick and go,ā but āclick, choose to go, go.ā Without documentation, all this was recognized by typing and I did not really want to play after this. But the memory remained tight.
Budokan: The Martial Spirit
Fighting game, four species. Karate, kendo, pole and nunchucks. First you practice, then sparring with a computer, then a tournament. In the tournament, before the start of the battle, the opponentās characterization was vague, based on which it was necessary to guess which weapon he was using and choose the appropriate one.
I also remembered copy protection - it was necessary to compare the logo and the name at startup. The set was final, therefore, after several dozen launches, it was possible to make a tablet. But if he guessed incorrectly, then he was allowed into the game and it was possible to practice alone as much as he liked. Threw out only when trying to start sparring or enter the tournament.
Cd-man
And this is the same Pakman clone that I played. The idea is the same, just a picture more fun. With levels, the background changes - then there will be a water level and a cosmic one. Plus there is a fenced area, from which you first need to find the key - appears randomly on the field. Basically, the "demo" was distributed - in which there were three locations. And on the third (space) it was written "under construction". Later, in 1992, in my opinion, version 2.0 was released, with additional levels, replacing the main character and simplifying the animation of death. But that was not it already.
Chicago 90
"Racing", where you could play for a gangster or the police. The task of the first is to get to one of the exits, dodging police and traffic. The car could be broken just like that. The task of the police is to catch the gangster until he escaped. When playing for the police, you could switch between different cars or give them commands. The toy is short and passable, but the graphics and animation were good for their time.
Arkanoid: Revenge of DOH
Arkanoid. For some reason, this one was remembered. And after him I didnāt play other arkanoid for ten years, until Ricochet appeared.
Deathtrack
And this is the shooting race, beloved by many, the sensible replacement of which has never appeared since then. Not that there were no attempts, but not one took off. Although the idea is not so complicated. A simple track, several cars, a bunch of weapons, the possibility of upgrades. And the terminators. Itās impossible without terminators.
The game itself already at 386 on older computers, such as dx40, even with the turbo turned off, ran too fast. So on the Pentium 120 thereās nothing to do without deceleration.
And also, when I started the game, suddenly support for sound cards and good music appeared.
Mechwarrior
Freedom of a mercenary. Buy battle robots, hire a team, roll around the galaxy and complete missions of various houses. And the plot ... Was there a plot? In fact, the plot was still there, as well as the time limit - five game years. I just donāt remember what happened next - the game stopped or just became impassable.
Rambo iii
Game Screensaver - movie poster and creeping line. Bad governance, reborn enemies, a view from above - and I, in addition to this, played on a robotron with a black and white monitor. Another available game was the bartender.
Simcity
They say that at first the authors wanted to make a fly in a helicopter using user-created maps. Then the helicopter was thrown out, and the map editor turned into SimCity. The first task was to build a profitable city. The second is to let him in more disasters. The game was the beginning of a long series of sequels and side-notes, in one of which the helicopter was returned.
Street rod
Quite a kind of race that you start even without a car. But with several hundred in your pocket and newspaper ads. Next - purchase, pumping, racing for money and other people's cars. Well, or on your own if you lose. And then it's all over again. It sounds monotonous, but it was interesting to play. The goal is to become the fastest racer by defeating the current King of the Roads.
Populous
God simulator. For the most part, you make the land level for your tribe so that they can build larger buildings, multiply and multiply. And when there are enough of them, the divine level will increase - and then it will be possible for the enemy tribe to arrange earthquakes and other floods with volcanoes. Repeat 100500 times. Really. The game has 500 levels. But if you score more points, you can skip levels, reducing the time of the game.
From here I went to the āgolden fundā.
Budokan
Deathtrack
Street rod
On a laptop of them only Budokan normally works, and even then - with problem management. There is no numpad, because control on qwe / asd / zxc as arrows and left shift for strokes. Which on the laptop keyboard is uncomfortable. But there is no problem with speed and sound, as Adlib sees the sound system.
Dtrack starts, but runs too fast. Slowdowns do not save. A Street Rod works at normal speed, but he doesnāt like the video card in anything, in races instead of a dashboard a hash of pixels.
