How I did not become a programmer in 35 years

From the very beginning of September, a stream of publications rushed to Habr about successful success on the topics of “Childhood of a Programmer”, “How to Become a Programmer after N Years,” “How I Left IT from Another Profession,” “The Path to Programming,” and so on. Such articles are written all the time, but now they have gone particularly tightly together. Every day, psychologists write, then students, then someone else.



And in each article a familiar song sounds: the main thing that the authors advise is to “try”, “not to give up”, “not to be afraid” and “go to your dream”; and in the comments you can often find the opinion that if you have loved computers since childhood, then working with them is not surprising in the end. Using my biography as an example, I would like to bring readers to the idea that the initial conditions may be more important than the efforts made. Belief in a just world promotes psychological comfort, but does not reflect reality very well.
