New 2GIS: a complete map of Russia and the search for goods in offline stores





On September 19, in Novosibirsk, we showed a new version of 2GIS - with an unlimited map of Russia, a search for goods and other features. Briefly retell the contents of the presentation.

For 20 years, 2GIS has focused on maps and city guides. Now a solid map of all of Russia has appeared with a search for companies, addresses and building routes by car.





If you downloaded maps of adjacent areas, you do not have to switch between them. This is convenient when driving along the federal highway: the navigator will route from one city to another, and the search will find the desired address or company on both sides of the border. Pharmacies, gas stations, ATMs, hotels, car services and cafes along the main highways can be found without even downloading additional cities. We upload these places to the general map of the country directly in the application.

To release the update, 2GIS revised the map engines in its products. The web version now runs on WebGL technology, which allows you to display a full-fledged vector map directly in the browser, which you can tilt and rotate. In mobile applications, the new Zenith engine has become faster due to the active use of the graphics processor - it takes up 10% less phone memory and allows you to update city maps daily.



The new card is already working on beta.2gis.ru , will be released in November for versions for iOS and Android.



Goods

The heart of 2GIS is the choice of organizations. What is commonly called the "Directory". And a couple of years ago we wondered what could be the new depth of the 2GIS directory after we learned how to prepare all conceivable information about companies - from detailed characteristics, to photos, reviews and inputs on the map? And having asked this question, we came to the understanding that we need to take a radical step in what is the depth of the directory. A new level is the prices of goods and services in offline stores.

The search works among offline stores of building and finishing materials, plumbing, electrical goods and tires. And also in terms of product requests - for example, you can find coffee or diapers. We plan to gradually connect all other areas where prices are important.

The leading stores of construction, decoration materials, tires and wheels - Leroy Merlin, OBI, Petrovich, Saturn, Baucenter, Castorama, Vianton and others - are connected to the goods. In total, more than 33 thousand points of sale, offering 37 million products, are cooperating with the service.



In addition to the fact that any company from these areas can publish its products for free, information also comes from users through a separate application “Check”. Its essence is that users receive cashback for scanning checks, but at the same time, information from each check also goes into 2GIS product search. The application has already filled the search with data from 3 million checks.



The new search from today works in 2GIS versions for iOS, Android and beta.2gis.ru.



Personalization



Several innovations are associated with the convenience of 2GIS. So, on the map in beta.2gis.ru there is a layer of places that each user visits more often than others. They are closely integrated into the drawing of the city and make the map individual.



The second possibility is the connection of 2GIS versions. Now, having found the company or route in the online version, you can click "Submit" and it will open in the user's mobile application.
