One of the most important players in the UAV market recently launched the first 3D object recognition competition on the Kaggle platform with a prize pool of $ 25,000. The competition period is 2 months. Official statistics already speak of 35 participants and 45 submissions.

The aim of the competition is to give impetus to the study of a serious and difficult task for unmanned vehicles - the recognition of objects in 3D. Typically, research in this area takes place behind closed doors in specialized scientific institutions. The organizers of the competition strive to lower the technical bar for those who wish to enter this specific area and to enable a wider audience to participate in solving complex problems and creating new innovations in the field of unmanned vehicles.

This competition seems interesting, because it gives you the opportunity to look at the advanced solutions to one of the most pressing problems at the moment personally and try your hand at solving this problem. To conduct the experiments, the organizers provided access to a large-scale set of real raw data from sensors received by a large fleet of unmanned vehicles of the company in a limited geographical area. Data includes lidar data, map, camera image. It is necessary to predict three-dimensional bounding volumes and classes of all objects in the scene.

Anyone can take part in the competition. I wish everyone interested in the competition good luck in participating and new achievements!
