HP has created a wearable VR system for teaching people in virtual reality

Augmented and virtual reality take up their place more and more in a completely ordinary reality. In the sense that there are more and more new devices designed to immerse a person in the digital world. This, of course, is not Tron with its digital perfection (well, almost), but somewhere nearby.

HP has been working on improving VR technology for a long time, and recently it has shown its new development - the HP Z VR virtual reality backpack. Generally speaking, it is a powerful computer that is able to work autonomously, so that a person, holding the system behind his back, can move relatively freely, being in a virtual environment. Why do you need it?

According to the developers, the HP Z VR is just the perfect system for educating people. First of all, we are talking about the military. But doctors, employees of technical support of various companies, workers of industrial enterprises, drivers, cosmonauts and representatives of other specialties can work with the “virtual reality backpack”. Some operations performed by professionals, and which need to be taught to beginners, are very complex. As a result, the cost of error is too high, so that training people in virtual reality in such situations is the ideal solution. Among such operations are surgery, some industrial processes, the study of explosive devices, the docking of spacecraft and much more.

HP is the first company to position its VR system as commercial, professional, and not gaming. Most of VR is currently used for games, although there are quite a few exceptions. By the way, the backpack is perfectly protected from dust, water and physical influences. So the same soldier can not be afraid to flop into the water with HP Z VR behind his back.

Device characteristics

Of course, such a miracle of technology can not be cheap . So it is, the price of the system is $ 3299, you can buy it already in September.

Presumably, hardly anybody will buy these VR backpacks at first, potential customers will want to try them out at first. And there are no problems here, HP offers to do this in its “dive centers”, where various models of VR systems will be on display.

Another interesting news concerns cooperation with HTC. The partners have developed a commercial version of the HTC Vive, which in terms of hardware is no different from the regular, consumer version. But the software is different, applications for video glasses are “sharpened” for commercial use. When buying a license is given for 1 year.

And finally - HP released a specialized VR application, which was called HP Mars Home Planet. This is a free multiplayer software platform that allows you to create colony projects on Mars. The maximum capacity of such a colony is more than 1 million people. The program used photos of NASA, so that users will see some regions of the Red Planet exactly as they are in reality.

It is worth noting that HP is not the first company that offers customers portable systems for VR. In the past, their “shoulder computer” was shown in MSI. This powerful PC is called the VR Backpack. Inside it is a GeForce GTX980 graphics adapter, a powerful Intel Core i7 mobile processor (6th generation) and a Z170 motherboard. The weight of the complete system is 5 kilograms. There are similar projects with other technology companies. However, so far only HP has decided to position its VR backpack as a commercial device, and not as a pure entertainment device.
