Can a Pebble Classic Watch replace a fitness bracelet? - [:::] - vs == [xx] ==

What for? Why? Tired of it? - the answer is no. I'm a big fan of Pebble Watch - let's not call them “smart.” They are rather “Funk” - functional than smart;) and I, like many, were disappointed by the news of the closure of Pebble as the watch manufacturer’s company in favor of the new owner Fitbit.

Of course, Pebble continues to live in places "crooked." The lack of timeline events is depressing (in the last update of the firmware , the clock allegedly “untied” from the services and removed all dependencies, but in fact, when installing the application, asks login \ pass: D).

Not so long ago, I decided to step over myself and order a “smartband” - the so-called fitness bracelet, as an alternative to Pebble watches.

For what? It is quite a logical question: at least try to compare and try to replace this device with a watch that can “touch”. From multiple conversations with work colleagues / friends - I realized that the bracelet lives a long time, performs the simplest functions of communicating with the phone ... that was enough to start the test.

Having hit the search, I realized that the market was “saturated” with bracelets well and a huge abundance of brands, it does not allow us to understand what to buy, which bracelet. Abundance and functionality. Decided to stop at the clock .

Bribed: design, quality and a sufficient amount of positive feedback from buyers. also pleased with the display and ... first things first.

If I bought Pebble for $ 80, then the bracelet cost $ 19 :) - the price is so low that it is not a pity to try to “kill” the bracelet are happy to be tested.

A good-looking, beautiful package with DR NO.I sport — never stop :) is stamped ; the button and the display, you understand that there is no sense in reading the manual - everything is intuitively understandable ... but I was a little mistaken, since the sliding on the screen did not come right away.

The very first thing - you need to understand how to charge the device, since it was turned off, it was discharged. I immediately saw the similarities of charging with Pebble, only without any protrusions, but with the use of a magnetic contact. Of course, the connection is not 100 you guess from the first time, but in general it’s normal, considering that you will have to charge 12 times a year ... :)

[First day]

The first day I got used to the interface and tried to figure out how to quickly click on the bracelet, in order to get the desired metric, readings. After a day, I realized that I should not slide my finger across the screen, but simply click on the sides of the screen to turn on navigation between menu items. One physical button to connect with the phone \ off and on the bracelet.

[So functional and its features]

0. Application for phones: Google Android and Apple App store

The application has graphs, readings during the day, readings during the month, and so on. Bracelet settings that are very important in work. Since the bracelet itself is minimalist and there is no point in pushing settings into it - everything comes from the phone, where a fairly user-friendly interface is implemented.

Bracelet includes:

1. “posture / sedentary reminder” - if you stay up for more than an hour, the bracelet will tell you about the need to warm up - very useful and encourages you not to stay for hours in one position - a very very useful thing. Configured in the application.

2. “lost function” - if you left the communication zone and X seconds passed, which are set in the X-RUN application (application for this bracelet).

3. Set up bracelet response to incoming calls, sms, various chats and any other additional services that you can add to the application as a push notification. Conveniently enough.

4. Search for a bracelet through the inclusion of vibro, if it is within reach and can not find quickly. That is, a bidirectional search for both a bracelet and a phone is implemented - simple and useful for losers.

5. An alarm clock that will wake you up at a comfortable time with the registration of sleep and activity) at night.

6. Counting the number of steps during the day.

7. The number of kilometers traveled (everything is relative and there is an error everywhere, since each steps differ in distance, which results in separation in distance).

8. Pulsometer (fairly accurate, green spectrum). I tried to study the material, a huge amount of it on geektimes, since it became interesting to me why the color is green :), what measurements are in general and whoiswho. On geektimes there is a lot of material, I will not give references. I liked the huge article that widely describes pulse measurements from distant times. Very cool everything is painted: article .

Squeeze on the heart rate monitor of this bracelet:

The heart rate monitor in this bracelet emits a green beam of light, illuminates the skin, and the optical sensor determines the speed and characteristics of the reflected light radiation. This is how the parameters of blood circulation through the capillaries are determined.

[First week]

When the first week passed, I noticed an unusual battery indicator, which of 4 divisions (roughly 25% each) showed 3 divisions (25%) —it was unusual for me. I started to believe in standby-100-days)

The battery in the bracelet on the application:

Battery Type: Lithium Polymer

Battery Capacity: 230 mAh

charging time: about 3 hours

The color line of the bracelets consists of black, blue and orange. Not "rich", but the classic in the form of a black bracelet is enough)

[The first month]

Standby time: About 100 days - such a line can be seen by the buyer of the bracelet and here it is worth noting that stand by is not the time of active use, but the time that the bracelet will live if you just put it and do not touch it. But we do not need it. Actually, my bracelet served for almost a month. That is, the battery charge lasted for 3.5 weeks. Since I conducted constant tests and measurements, the time in normal operation should reach 4 weeks.

[Can I have a summary?]

Comparing with the Pebble watch, you understand, the bracelet is a very good alternative to the Pebble watch, since initially Pebble was bought in order not to miss calls on the phone, as in the house, sometimes the phone is far away and the sound is constantly turned off. Pebble solved the issue with calls but also became part of life. I already wrote about this ( article ).

Fitness bracelet DT NO.I wonderful , comfortable. Made of good silicone.

With IP68 protection - you can safely swim and wash. The light weight of the bracelet does not cause irritation of bulkiness in the bed and there is no fogging under the bracelet due to the form factor of the bracelet.

In general, a very good bracelet that will help you to be mobile, not to miss important calls and monitor your health.

After using the watch - I wanted to get the SDK of the bracelet and make my menu for use in automation - I will be grateful to anyone who gives the opportunity or experience of using / opening the bracelet and then flashing its menu / API calls - to squeeze more braces and joy from the bracelet.

* If you compare Pebble with a bracelet in duration: 1 week versus 1 month

* Ergonomic - both Pebble and bracelet are equally comfortable.

* In terms of functionality - in the basic version, the Pebble Classic and the bracelet are virtually identical, with the exception that you can expand the Pebble Classic by installing new applications and writing your own with a fill on the watch.

* By design - both devices are good and there is no sharp advantage.

In conclusion, the conclusion is: there is no winner with a sharp margin, each with its own pros and cons. Hopefully in the near future, manufacturers of bracelets will add the possibility of an open API or options in applications with the possibility of incorporating them into their systems.
