Appendicitis is a common disease in which the process of the cecum (appendix) is removed. It occurs very often and is treated surgically. This disease affects people of all ages, but most often appendicitis occurs in people 10-30 years old. The functions of the appendix in the human body are still not fully understood.
Appendicitis appears as a result of blockage and the subsequent inflammatory process in the appendix. Only surgery and further treatment help, however, a mandatory diet after appendicitis is also important, since it is important for the patient to know how to eat right. Such a diet is called "zero" by medical professionals.
Usually, the diet is followed for 3-7 days after surgery, it all depends on how fast the patient is recovering, in some cases it can be extended by an observing physician. The question "What can I eat after appendicitis?" Should also be answered by your doctor.
It should be noted that all food should be liquid or jelly-like, in no case do not eat solid food, as pieces of undigested food can easily damage or even tear the stitched seam. In addition, in the first week after surgery, it is necessary to exclude milk and fatty dairy products, including processed cheeses, from the diet. Eating should be in small quantities, but often (approximately every 2-3 hours). A six-time meal is considered optimal. All food should be boiled or stewed, you can cook steamed. Frying and baking is not recommended.
Consider two options for diets in the first days after surgery.
Diet after appendicitis No. 1.
- low-fat chicken broth (in the first couple of days without bread);
- fruit or berry jelly with a little sugar;
- rose hip tea.
Diet after appendicitis No. 2.
- rice broth (also without bread in the first 2 days after surgery);
- fruit or berry jelly;
- ordinary tea without lemon.
In addition, each diet after appendicitis allows the intake of natural juices diluted with water (apple and orange juices should be excluded, since they contain a lot of organic acids, which can lead to irritation of the scar on the intestinal wall). Apricot, peach, pumpkin juice is great. Tomato juice is also preferably avoided.
When the patient gradually begins to recover, liquid cereal on water can be safely included in the diet: rice, oat, wheat and buckwheat. It is better to grind rice, buckwheat and wheat groats in a coffee grinder. Then gradually switch to stewed vegetables, fish (necessarily sea, it can be low-fat herring, flounder and sea bass) and classic soups (with potatoes, carrots, onions, beets, zucchini, pepper is not used, salt in a limited amount). Fish soup, pea soup and borscht are excluded from the diet. Sauces such as mayonnaise and tomato ketchup are also unacceptable. In the second week after the operation, you can already include low-fat cottage cheese, low-fat kefir, low-fat yogurt and butter. From meat you can eat rabbit or low-fat chicken meat (boiled or stewed, in no case fried).
Throughout the month, it is better to exclude spicy, smoked, fatty, salty, fried and pepper dishes, as they can lead to irritation of the seam, which is extremely undesirable. In addition, flour and confectionery are completely excluded: cakes, pastries, shortbread and puff pastry cookies, pastries, bagels, muffins, white bread, pancakes and others. If you really want something sweet, you can let honey, dried apricots, prunes, marshmallows, dried figs and dates.
Now you know what you can eat after appendicitis and how best to cook. In any case, it is important to exclude spicy and fried foods. Prefer boiled food, preferably soups.
Thus, the diet after appendicitis involves the intake of liquid, spicy food in a limited amount.
