I’ve been telling myself for several years now - all things should have their place. And as long as I stand, I forget the same amount of things on the desktop that are not needed for work. I throw out the excess, structure the important and pile everything up, but every time everything is littered to the ground. And I'm sick of it.
Because how can I throw that beautiful notebook with the company logo (the fifth in line for use) or finally take home a long-forgotten quadrocopter. In the end, everything starts to look like this:
Editor's workplace
I am ashamed to show it, but I think that I'm not the only one here. It is clear that there are adherents of cleanliness, structurally correct guys and people who wipe everything three times a day (excuse me for the photo above). Therefore, I want to talk with you about littering and the things that we use every day at work.
For quite some time now I have been struggling with trash on the table and the feeling of anxiety that comes from it. First, I agree with myself to call it a “creative mess,” and then I’m sad because it’s so, where are these needles and a skein of thread from again , I don’t even use them.
And if the excellent techniques of "clutter-up" work with ordinary things - clothes or kitchen utensils, then I can’t imagine how to deal with a whole bunch of potentially important small IT items. Because it is a pity to throw out, and to sell laziness.
(And I don’t even remember about the very bottom drawer of the chest of drawers, where there are five hard drives, ten flash drives, the collector's edition “The Age of Mythologies”, an unpacked set of floppy disks with OS / 2, extra keyboard keys, a dozen wires to charge everything light, old magnets from the HDD, three dead smartphones and a million more things)
With computer cleaning, everything is also good - the Inbox folder for everything new, its regular cleaning, and important backups to the cloud or to RAID. Once a month, erase everything that has not been used or transferred, and everything is clean again.
But the physical desktop is a disaster. Of course, there is a version that you need to clearly limit the set of items that are standing there. It seems like a vital set of what you use every day.
For example, I have, besides a laptop, a mouse, two cups, a pencil box, a lamp, a phone charger and a small cactus on the table. Even in such a set, they take up a lot of space, and if you forget some unstructured papers there, then hell and chaos begin.
And so I decided to find out how the Habr users live with this - so I ask you to tell me in the comments if you have a problem cleaning the desktop and fill out a short form (two minutes of time) about what is on your desktop. Tell us about your unassembled box of IT pieces.
Oh, and show your workplace. Not one to confess to me here!
