Multi-storey LEDs, smart lights and bulbs for 18 rubles

This week I visited the Interlight Russia exhibition, the LED Forum conference and the Golden Photon Award Ceremony. I’ll tell you about the most interesting thing that I managed to see and hear.

The most interesting thing was at the LED forum, because they talked about promising developments and the future.

The efficiency of white LEDs almost reached the physical limit (about 200 lm per W) and the developers thought about how to reduce the size of the LEDs (and at the same time make them cheaper) without reducing the power. One of the ways is cascade LEDs, where several pn junctions emitting light are located one above the other.

Modern white LEDs are small and bright, there is no big problem in collecting such LEDs in a matrix and making independent control of each of its cells. And if you put a lens in front of such a matrix, you get a lighting projector, in which you can arbitrarily change the shape of the light spot. Surely such projectors will find application in a scenic light, and now smart car headlights are being developed on their basis, which will illuminate at every moment only what is needed without dazzling drivers of oncoming cars and pedestrians.

Slowly improving and cheaper lighting OLED-panels.

In addition to LG, they began to produce a subsidiary of Philips. The modern OLED panel gives up to 300 lm with an efficiency of 75 lm / W and a service life of 30 thousand hours. If you reduce the current, the same panel gives 100 lm, while the efficiency increases to 85 lm / W, and the service life to 100 thousand hours. Such a panel, measuring 120x120 mm and a thickness of 1.4 mm, now costs $ 62 . I hope that in about five years the price of OLED panels will drop once in twenty.

Another technology of the future is Sunlike (<a href = " habr.com/ru/company/lamptest/blog/411021 ). These are LEDs of the “solar” spectrum based on violet LEDs and a three-component phosphor (ordinary white LEDs use a spirit-component phosphor and a crystal with blue glow). Sunlike LEDs have been manufactured for more than a year and a half, Chinese counterparts have appeared. Prices began to decline, but while Sunlike is much more expensive than conventional LEDs. Light bulbs on Sanlayki are still produced only by a Belarusian craftsman and a small Korean company, and there are more and more luminaires on these LEDs.

At a Sunlike session, a slide was shown on the TM30 color rendering index. Perhaps it will be of interest to many.

At the exhibition this year, it was clearly visible that progress in the LED industry has slowed significantly. I have not seen anything new compared to last year. Is that a lot of LED chandeliers of unusual design.

In the Chinese pavilion, they boasted not about technology, but about prices. 9-watt LED bulbs already offer $ 0.28, about 18 rubles, cheaper than incandescent bulbs. About quality and durability it is better not to think. :)

On the evening of September 11, the Golden Photon Award Ceremony was held. The awards were given to both implemented lighting projects and individual light sources. Unfortunately, only one application has been submitted for the category “best LED lamp”.

In general, I would like to hope that superbright OLED panels with a solar spectrum will start to be sold everywhere at a price of 18 rubles apiece. :)
