Agilean Project Management System

Application: This system is perfect for any projects introducing new approaches and methodologies, R&D projects, Lean transformation projects, cultural transformation, and in general any projects related to changes in the organization.

Agilean Hybrid Approach

As with all Agilean solutions and tools, we use the same Agilean hybrid approach in developing a project management system. To be more precise, we select the most effective, universal and easily applicable in any context from existing and available methodologies and use it to create an Agilean hybrid tool.

Selected components.

In the diagram you see 4 flows or dimensions that are present in almost any project.

Namely:

  1. daily activities (Zoom in: - or how we organize the work of the team on the project every day);
  2. major phases of the project (Zoom out: Phases of the project, reflecting the strategic steps of the project);
  3. change management (everything related to the management of stakeholders, the political aspects of the organization and any aspects related to human interaction);
  4. project communications (Project communications plan).

Logic of choice

A little more detail why we use these tools and in just such a combination.

SCRUM - it makes no sense to defend or advertise this methodology in view of its popularity. I just want to note that the SCRUM format has long been used not only in IT and, in principle, has proved its effectiveness as a simple and effective solution that provides speed of implementation, planning flexibility and high product quality due to constant feedback from the customer. Also correctly configured SCRUM is a high involvement of the team, the maximum reduced level of stress and absurdity, so familiar to PMs from waterfall and PM BoK projects. We hang boards and apply this methodology to plan and organize your daily project activities.

DMAIC (LEAN 6 SIGMA) - DMAIC is a large-scale technology for implementing projects with its own tools and a detailed description of almost every step. In our opinion, her adherence to the spirit of waterfall, her excessive inclination towards procedures, regulations and other bureaucracy makes her morally obsolete and ineffective in comparison with solutions based on Agile. However, in which it undoubtedly remains good and effective, in our opinion, it is in planning large phases of the project.

Her DEFINE, MEASURE, ANALYZE, IMPROVE, CONTROL echoes the classic PDCA approach and is a great help for any project manager in strategic planning of their project activities.

MODEL OF CHANGE 8 STEPS OF KOTTER - this is an important difference between the Agilean methodology and other project management systems. Serious attitude to change management is what distinguishes a good project manager from a bad one and a successful project from a failure. Check out John Cotter, the pioneer of change management, and apply as best practice.

COMMUNICATION PLAN - how is the Agilean Communications Plan different from any other project communications plan?

First of all - relevance. Any practicing project manager was faced with a situation when the Project Communication Plan comes down solely to formal events and messages that have to be tortured out of oneself, simply by the fact that you have a point in the contract to implement the “Communication Plan”. In our methodology, if you use the Cotter model, the Communication Plan ceases to be a burden and formality, but becomes a living and effective tool for supporting each of the 8 steps. You no longer puzzle over the question “What to stick into the communications plan?”. Feel free to look at the content, goals and objectives of each of Cotter’s 8 steps and plan a series of interviews with the leadership in the “Create a coalition” step, a massive attack of all communication channels in the “Communication vision” step and focus groups with employees in the “Quick wins” step.

General recommendations:

Combine all these four approaches into one schedule and plan your actions immediately taking into account all four dimensions and the success of your project is guaranteed!
