What radio listeners and radio hosts hate

The other day we began to dive into the " ecosystem of sound " and discussed the main points that allow us to get acquainted with this topic in practice. Radio is a part of this ecosystem, still a very popular and widespread channel for the delivery of audio content. There are a lot of myths around him, and the debate about the end of the radio era does not subside .

Every day hundreds of SMS messages from listeners come to the radio station. Not all of them relate to the topic of broadcasting, voting or “greetings to Masha from the opposite office.

A large part of the messages consists of a discussion of what is happening on the air of their beloved (or vice versa, hated) radio station. If you add to this what people write in the social. networks, you can easily understand what really annoys the audience.

For the sake of justice, the presenters on radio stations are as susceptible to annoyance as the listeners - let's try to sort out mutual complaints and understand how the broadcast looks on opposite sides of the barricades.

I'm a listener, I'm always right

We begin, of course, with those for whom “that's all” - with the audience. The listener determines the revenue of the radio station and wants the content of the broadcast to meet his expectations.

Therefore, in the first place among radio listeners, as a rule, the same complaint:

“Why don't you put on some other music?”

These questions DJs get every day, without exaggeration. By the way, we have previously touched on this topic and told how to form a playlist on radio stations .

Unfortunately, in this situation, a DJ or a radio host is in some way a hostage of format and cannot simply take and change songs in the list. Alas, DJ is not omnipotent - he is unlikely to be given the opportunity to put, for example, Gus Gus, where Armstrong or Sinatra sings, even if he likes this band himself and sometimes goes out on the night air.

Another way of expressing dissatisfaction with this issue is the SMS message that the music “which was five years ago, has remained so” (especially at weekends, when a standard playlist does come out on the radio often). Unfortunately, claims in this format have little effect. But more constructive comments like “You put on the music of bands A, B and C, but now D and F are playing in this genre, I would like to hear more about them,” may well affect the “radio alignment”.

“Why don't you broadcast to ...”

The second most popular question that one way or another is asked with varying degrees of politeness. It is worth mentioning here that most radio stations have a website with broadcasting cities indicated on it, but for various reasons, the station may leave one or another city.

It would seem that in the Internet age it is also possible to listen online, but the audience is very sensitive to the departure of the radio station from the local FM band. Unfortunately, the presenter, as a rule, has no authority to answer these questions on the air: his task is not to discuss the recoupment, tenders, franchises, and the nuances of retransmission. But he can transfer information to managers (but it is unlikely to influence their decision).

“What does this presenter do for you?”

Often, the listeners are completely unbearable to a specific leader. For various reasons: I do not like the voice or, for example, the accent. As a rule, they react most acutely to people who stand out from the general mass of other radio broadcasters. On the other hand, they usually have a giant army of admirers that balances the flow of negativity.

Therefore, if you absolutely do not like someone from the “voices of the radio station”, you are most likely not alone. But if the presenter has a great success with another part of the audience, you can hardly affect the broadcast, you will have to switch to another station.

Little funny things
In addition to these, the most frequent reasons for the hatred of listeners, there are also quite unusual. Often, for example, the female half of the audience falls in love with a DJ, and sometimes this can turn into a real drama with threats of suicide, tears and, again, the demand to dismiss a smoothie.

The audience doesn’t like the advertisement, the new design of the air, the beating of the program, the theme of the program, the name, the man just called, the name of the DJ and many other small things. They all see it on the radio, read it, and if they can do something, they must do it. But no less often, the presenter simply turns out to be the only “contact person”, because of which he has to take the rap for decisions that he cannot influence and which he cannot change.

I am an artist - I see it

Radio presenters are also people and are just as annoyed for a variety of reasons (including the authors of the messages that the listeners send to the portals, messengers and social networks during the broadcast). Moreover, the fact that your “message” did not get on the air does not mean that it was not read carefully.

Therefore, below is a list of harmful advice: what to do to effectively get the radio host off.

Be very attentive and pedantic.

The presenter said that according to the forecast, it is partly cloudy, and you have a clear sky outside the window, put an accent on it wrong, or did you make a mistake in some minor fact? It is urgent to fix it and point out the lack of professionalism.

Indeed, radio presenters should have a competent speech and should not be mistaken in the facts. But there are no ideal ethers - sometimes equipment breakdowns occur, the invited guest is late, colleagues have to be replaced suddenly - all this affects their trained, but, alas, not iron nerves.

Moreover, now besides the “radio” work, the presenter often has to perform other tasks: for example, the newsman has to post on the site a detailed news just voiced on the air, and cross-link it to Twitter with an unbanal headline.

All this happens non-stop at a fast pace - sometimes it happens and be sealed. Yes, the hosts are very frustrating if some of their actions or words are subjected to harsh criticism, but if, for example, a serious factual mistake was made on the air, and you politely but firmly pointed it out - your message will be voiced with words of gratitude.

Need more posts! Do not stop!

The authors of the messages that fall into the category of "regular listeners" do not always evoke emotion among radio presenters. Moreover, the presenters are sometimes genuinely afraid of those who are ready to write messages and comment on the air almost every day, even if without harsh criticism.

At such moments, the DJ / presenter has strange thoughts: are these people really not doing anything else? Why do they sign messages with such strange names? Who is Jafar Yagovich, “a taxi driver from Moscow” and “just a girl from Tula”, why do they follow me? Do five people really listen to me? In general, if you want to provide a leading paranoid mood - write more often.

In any situation, ask to put the song and say hello

Unfortunately, many students are too accustomed to the radio format, which was popular in the "zero" - and the radio station still receive messages for the "songs on request" block. Now (and even then) the formats of radio stations assumed not only music, but also analytics, news, discussions with experts (even if the radio is positioned not only as spoken and broadcasts musical blocks).

Therefore, the host is very upset when, at the height of a serious dialogue, the listener calls on the air and asks to say hello to Lena, he loves her very much and wants to put the song “Despasito” for her. Usually radio stations have a separate time for programs on applications with greetings - if, again, the station format assumes the presence of such programs. For the rest of the time, the presenter will not be able to broadcast “your” composition, no matter how cool it may be - even if it pleases the DJ himself.

In addition, the radio host is enraged by inactive listeners, short SMS messages, very long SMS messages, when the listener likes a song that the host doesn’t like, when SMS-portal activity is only during the prize draw, when listeners are unhappy that they have not won They believe that “everything is bought” when listeners come on a tour and ask for an autograph, when listeners come on a tour and do not ask for an autograph, when they turn on the cameras to conduct online broadcasting and much more.

But when he is praised, it is always like. And even when they wish good morning and good night.
